Who’s Left??
Well let’s see how many of my true Xanga friends are still hanging around these hallowed pages.
Needless to say, I have once again been sadly neglecting my poor beloved xanga. I do miss it, but it’s hard to get back into the habit of blogging regularly. Until just recently, I was completely swamped with life. Two jobs, Christmas, visiting family, Bible study, book club, Bunco, Confirmation and all the other extras just really caught up to me and it was hard to find a minute, much less 20 to myself. I was lucky if I checked my email! Things have slowed down some and that’s good and bad, I’ll fill you in about that later.
Christmas was fantastic. It was low key and fairly tightly budgeted, but very nice all the same. We stayed home this Christmas, since we went to my folks for Thanksgiving and skiied with Hubby’s mom and sis after New Year. A Christmas at home was about all I could handle!
I had a job interview before I left with Sub Services. It is one of the departments in the district office. I would still be a sub, getting sub pay and no benefits, but I would be working everyday, Mon -Fri 8:00 – 4:30. I also had an interview for a 5th grade short-term position, but I knew I wouldn’t get that one as two student teachers - from that school, for that grade – had applied. One of them was the student teacher with the teacher retiring. Yeah. So whatever. I will find out about the sub services position this week and I am really hoping I get it. I think I’d like to spend the next year taking some professional development, working on my TESOL, and exploring my artistic side and developing that as well. My secret wish is to write a children’s book and illustrate it myself. Maybe it’s time to focus on that goal. I think the sub services job will be the perfect job for just that. I could put in a full day, and not have to plan, grade or do any prep work in the evenings. There is one other possibility I need to check out, but I’m really leaning towards the sub services job, if they’ll have me. I think I’ll also take the year (they asked for a 1 year commitment) and get all my stuff together for the Archdiocese so I can apply there as well. So much thinking to do, too deep and involved for sure.
Super Cuts has reduced the hours allotted for receptionists to 10 / week. That’s not apiece, that’s all together. So needless to say, 5 hours a week isn’t doing me that much good. They still have me come in and close – this week it’s 4 nights, but that’s not much more and it’s a real hassle to go in for just 45 minutes or so. I’m thinking even if I get this other job, I might stay at Super Cuts, just because I get free haircuts and 40% off all products and services, even if I just work 1 hour a week. That would be worth it in the money it would save me for having my hair colored alone.
The kids and hubby are good. Getting into mischief and all the other stuff teenagers are apt to do. Hubby and I were talking about how hard it’s been raising teenagers. As I’ve said before, having kids is not for the faint at heart. We were also lamenting the fact that they’ve grown so much. It would be nice to see that sunny smile of the 4 year old again, rather than the angry glare of an unhappy teen or the disinterested glaze of know-it-all teen. And honestly, we get more smiles and laughter than the rest, but some days, it sure doesn’t feel like it. I continually pray for guidance, and for God to help my daughters on their path. And we just keep pluggin’ away. Like my dad always says, do something - even if it’s wrong. So that what we do.
I haven’t been to WW since before Thanksgiving, but I must be still losing. My new jeans that I just bought 2 weeks ago, are now too big. Which thrills me and pisses me off all at the same time. I can literally take them off without unbuttoning them. I JUST bought them! And believe me they were NOT like that when I bought them. And this was the first day wearing them after washing them, so it wasn’t that either. So — I’m happy, and bummed. Hubby said he’d happily buy me a pair of jeans every week if I continued to lose weight. Well, that’s something at least! LOL
I have high hopes for this year. I think this may be the year things come together for us. We have certainly worked diligently towards that end! OK so I’ll leave you with a picture of my favorite Christmas present (which they gave to me weeks early so I could put it to good use!)
Question of the day: What was your favorite gift this year? (to give or recieve?)

Aw, that’s a cute shot. I’ve never had a Kitchen Aid, but I don’t know that I’d really want one. Are you enjoying Life of Pi? I did.
What a nice update! Wishing you well in your endeavors.
I’m so glad you came back to us!
That subbing job sounds perfect for you right now. You can teach but have none of the responsibilities that go with planning and grading and stuff. Is the pay any good?
Congrats on the weight loss! That’s really good that you’re still losing without trying too hard. You must have your metabolism working right!
@TeacherPerson - I did enjoy it! I just finished it actually. I’m thinking for my book club pick, that may be it! I’d like to read it again as I think there’s a lot that I missed.
@dtrask - it wouldn’t actually be in a classroom, but in the sub services office. I’m just thinking I want something full time and regular!
Wow! It has been a while! Sounds like you have been busy but in control! I hope your work situation works out. My wife is wanting to cut back but has not made up her mind. She loves both jobs. Church sectary & Head of our RCIA. She may go one more year before deciding.
Oh, I get it. Full time, regular hours and regular money would be helpful! Teenagers sound like so much fun! I have my hands full enough with my 4 year old! Sometimes she is so stubborn and determined to have her own way. It makes me worry what 14 will be like.
I have one of those that my grandma bought for me when I got married the first time. I love it. I have the meat grinder and pasta attachments, which are great. Glad to hear your Christmas was good. Mine was small, quiet and good as well. Yeah, teens are a lot tougher to raise than toddlers. Good luck on the sub thing. Are you enjoying Life of Pi? I tried to read it and managed a few chapters before I quit. Just couldn’t get in to it.
i think I had the same reaction to my kitchenaid when I got one!
I have a jam cookie recipe I need to send you. I still make your biscochito recipe every year.
I’ve got a wicked case of envy going. I want the kitchen aid. I want to be too small for my jeans. Somehow I don’t think those two go together!
Have a great day.

I’m still here! Your life sounds crazy. Mine is really slow unless you look at my evenings. See you on Thursday night.
Great picture. My fav present to give was a craftsman tool kit for dh and to get was a pretty crystal vase Trey picked out all by himself.
Welcome back! You’ve been missed!
What a lovely present! I hope to get one of my own some day. My favorite present was getting to surprise and hug my children on Christmas. There was lots of drama involved, but in the end, I think it was worth it.
Sending you “good luck for new job” mojo!!
Oh, MAN! I’dve been hugging that KitchenAid, too!
The good thing about the kids is that they WILL get older, and eventually will again see how wise you are. : )
Good luck with the job!
First. I miss you. :so-sad: But glad to hear you’ve been keeping busy and trekking on.
Second. Thanks for your comment
Third. The second to last paragraph was awesome!
Fourth. J.B. finally got me a worthy gift after three years (usually he was unemployed and broke, this year he’s not, that’s a gift within itself!!)…a new digital camera. He knew I wanted to keep a daily chronicle of our son’s life. OF COURSE the birth of my son is an amazing gift but he came after X-Mas. He’s a Three King Day gift :wink-wink:
@dtrask - Yeah, 14 is a challenge, but so is 17. We’re just holding on for the ride!
@rubymay1029 - it took me awhile to get into, once you get past all the zoo stuff it starts to move quicker, and the end is worth it.
@ThisIsBullDookie - Send away – made biscochitos with the KitchenAid this year, it was SOOOO much easier, although I think I overmixed one batch – they were kind of hard.
@heidicindy - I think you’re right, they don’t really go together! LOL
@madamzephyrus - What an awesome present! Hooray!
@suzyQ_darnit - I continue to hope so!
@Jackee0779 - Woo HOO! Digital camera means I’ll be expecting regular updates of Nathan!!!!
I’m still here. Not too much blogging by myself either but I am hanging around. Facebooking too.
I bought myself the Jane Seymour necklace and earrings.
Great photo too by the way. Andrew gave me some books and footie pjs. Yay
You’re in good company, I can’t even remember the last time I posted, but I still look through the subs e-mail as much as I can. It’s good to hear how you are and that your Christmas went well. I share your excitement over the Kitchenaid, that’s a wonderful gift! hmmm, my favorite gift came from my 2nd daughter…a dvd of season 5, Wind at my Back, series from Canada.
Yay! for the continued weight loss! and groans…I’m jealous…(nah…) Congrats!
My husband got me a kitchenaid last year!! I hugged it too. I use it all the time.
Oh, and yeah, Bunco!! I would do nothing but play if I could…. i love that game!
Good to see you!
xoxo, QE
@widowat40 - I get on my facebook periodically, but not very often! Hooray for footie pjs and books are always welcome here!
@vjgunkel59 - it’s hard getting back to blogging regularly isn’t it?
@Queenelizzy - I’m looking forward to tonight because guess what? It’s BUNCO!!! LOL
Busy-ness happens. We still love you!
