  • D Day is coming

That’s right. Ducky’s Day is tomorrow.  What day? The day she has been counting down to since Christmas. Tomorrow Ducky leaves for Maui. And boy do I wish I were going with her. While she’s enjoying the island breezes. sun and surf, I’ll be here in bone dry NM suffering with crazy allergies. <Sigh> I hope that she has fun. And that she is safe. And that she only does things we would approve of. This is also the first Easter she’s been away. Hubby has been away many Easters. Matter of fact that seems to be the holiday he always misses. The kids and I always have celebrated together, dyeing eggs, hiding and hunting eggs, and eating chocolate, going to Easter Vigil Mass….. it’s always been a family affair. It’s going to be strange with her gone.

Squirt has had lots going on. She’s been working on a project – positive role model in history. She had to dress up in costume, have three props and give a presentation on it. She choose Mary Church Terrell. We’ve spent lots of time on this in the last week or so and it payed off with 106 / 100.

Squirt has also been dealing with teenage girl drama. Ugh. Ducky went through something like this in 8th grade too. I hate 8th grade. That’s why I don’t want to teach middle school. The drama and spitefulness just makes me crazy. We had some tears and some yelling and a sleepless night. It seems to be fine now, but this week end it sure seemed like the end of her world (at least to her).

I’ve been busy subbing. They are actually starting to request me, which is nice. That’s the job I’m doing tomorrow, and I’m glad, as this class is so much fun. I also called to check on the status of my NM credential. I swear the people that work in those places must go to B###h school  The one I talked to evidently graduated Magna Cum Laude. Ugh. I just want to say “why are you so rude? Do your supervisors know how you treat the people on the phone?”  Do you think their supervisors know, or for that matter even care? I just don’t understand why if you don’t like helping people on the phone, why take a job where that’s all you do all day??? I don’t understand these people. But then again I’ve seen teachers who obviously don’t like children. Shouldn’t that have been a clue that teaching wasn’t the career path for them? Hmmm….. you would think it would be obvious. Don’t like blood? Stay out of the medical field. Can’t stand sitting all day — reconsider that secretary position. Allergic to animals — vet schools probably not your cup of tea. Would rather eat than cook, culinary arts is not your specialty.  To me it seems cut and dried, but I know lots of folks end up working where they are not happy. I tell my girls all the time, find what you love and figure out how to make a living doing it.

I guess why that’s why I can’t give up on teaching.

    Question of the day:

Are you loving what you do and doing what you love?

  • I hope Ducky has a great time in Maui.  Is she going with friends?  Sad though that she won’t be around through for the traditional celebrations of Easter.  Hmmmm, they grow up so fast!

Good job on Squirts project!  Sorry she’s having all the teen drama though.  Something I’m not looking forward to with my girls.

That’s great that you are being requested.  They like you . . . they really, really like you.  Doesn’t it feel great!?!

Hmmmm, I think I like what I’m doing.  It’s a little monotonous sometimes, but I do like my job.

  • Hope Ducky has a good time in Maui! But, it’s got to e hard to see her go.

Do I like my job… yes! Guess that I’m lucky in that!

  • Hope Ducky has a wonderful time!

  • Durn teenagers.  I’m working in a 6th grade school, with preschool tacked on to it…6th graders drive me nuts most of all…going into those hallways with their sweaty stink all combined in one small space, and not one of them saying excuse me…though they do think my guys are as cute as can be, so there is hope for them :) .  And I SOOOOO agree with you on careers of choice!  I HATE seeing those teachers who could care less about the kids…why are you there????   As for your question of the day…Yuppers, quite quite quite happy with where I am..could be better, could be in an actual preschool teaching position, and not just the aide, but the way I look at it, during the summer, with my camp,  I’m the curriculum maker, decision maker, parent-talker-to, “principal”, etc…aiding right now, and not having to deal with that still gives me my cake (working with preschoolers), and ices it with none of the politicing…Anyway, hope your Squirt has recovered from her heart break…Jess has sworn never to talk to her cousin again…at least not for a couple of weeks.

  • I was just telling D2 this morning that junior high is the absolute worst and to just try to hang on. I feel you pain.

  • I usually like my job.  I don’t hate it.  I’m just ready to retire, and I have not hit 40 yet!  haha

I hope Ducky has a great time!

  • I hope Ducky has a great trip, I’m jealous too!  I hope she’ll be safe.

You would think those things would be obvious, wouldn’t you?  I think lots of people end up doing things just because they somehow fell into that job.  That’s always been me.  If I had stayed with school I would have been a lawyer.  Instead I’m a loan officer in a crashing mortgage industry!  I love this job for the flexibility.  Even when I was making loads of money, I could be with my kids and didn’t have to send them to daycare.

  • I absolutely love what I do… and I am also a teacher. It always amazes me how many people get into the field, either Early Childhood Ed (like me) or teaching in general, and really just don’t like children. HELLO?!! They usually think it will be easy – “After all, its just babysitting, right?” :steamed: That thought process is one of my biggest pet peeves. But one of the great things about my job is I work in a lab school on a college campus, so I can help weed out some of those people as they go through our program… strongly suggest that they try another field of study.

  • no to both questions… but i love sleeping and dream and you really can’t make money off that that i know of.

  • I love cooking and talking food.   Crafting is my love.

    Hope Ducky comes back safe.

  • Just wanted to wish you a Happy Easter!

  • I am being an excellent and obedient child, angelically doing only the things that i know you would strongly approve of.

And I’m being entirely serious here.
    Serious as this cow: :dancingcow:

    That’s pretty darn serious, man.
