Wondering where I’ve been? Probably not, but I’m going to tell you anyway. I’ve been working!!! Whew! Can you say — Moola? Can you say personal satisfaction? Can you say — whooped? I realized that after 3 years off, I’m not used to working full days. And boy the house and the errand list certainly show it! Trying to get is all done is certainly a challenge. The family is not used to me not being able to take care of it all. Overall though it’s been good, and since I got my first paycheck, great even! So nice to feel like I’m making a contribution.
That’s one of the biggest benefits of working. The knowledge that I’m making a contribution to the family. I know when I’m home, I’m making a contribution, but I always feel badly about spending money, or causing expenses — when I’m working, I know that I helped earn that money, and don’t begrudge spending it! Of course we’re not spending it now, we’ll not much of it, the majority is going to pay off Maui debt, and then saving for the house. Hopefully this spring we’ll be in the position to buy the property my sister is currently renting. Then she won’t ever have to worry about not having a place. She can rent it from us till she’s ready to buy, or we might just keep it for an investment – who knows? But we really would like the property in the family, so were trying to get to the point where we can make that happen.
It’s good to be on track again. Ahhh….I’ve missed work. Weird I know.
Another side effect of returning to work is that I’ve been having the weirdest dreams — they are vague now, but they are so vivid when I wake up, and definitely bizarre. Hmmmm…..veddy interezting…….
Alright, I’m off to catch up and comment, you all have a great weekend, enjoy you time off, I know I will!
Question of the day:
What’s the longest you’ve gone without working outside the home?

When I have long term jobs, I dream about the kids. I sent you an email about book club. I hope that you will consider joining us next month. I am thrilled that you are happy to be at work. I am working 4 days next week. Call me if you aren’t working on Monday.
Humm.. Since 1990, that I haven’t been working.. Most of the time when I work. It is usually at my home as a babysitter.. Or doing stuff for someone outside of my home.. I have been a stay at home wife.. Now I’m no longer a wife.. I just be a full time stay at home mom to my kids.. I need to do something with my future.. But the big question is what??? That is what I do now know what I want to be..
You already know how I feel about extra money! I’m sure it’s gonna take awhile to get back into the groove of working and juggling everything else. At least your kids are old enough to help some, maybe.
Now’s a good time to buy investment property if you can afford to. You already know that it won’t be profitable for a while. A lot of people make the mistake that they’re going to get richer by owning a lot of property. That only happens after it’s paid for or if they’re multi-units and that comes with big problems too. Good luck. It’s so nice of you to try to help your sister. Are you two getting along better?
Working!?! Congratulations. I have been often been working. My time at home has been less. Hope you have a restful weekend! :dancingcow:
Woohoo! Congrats on working! Yeah, I know that whooped feeling quite well.
Working outside the home. Hmm….I’ve actually worked since I was 13 years old. The longest I have gone without working is 6 weeks when I had my second baby. The first baby I only took off 4. And I had a C-section! We were big time broke. hahaha
RYC: Jordan D’Avy is home for the weekend right now. He goes back Tuesday to start his chemotherapy, and he will be back in then for 2 to 3 weeks. He has 2 weeks to decide if he wants his eye removed or not. he can undergo many extensive surgeries, but the most he could ever see would be a blur. He will probably just have it taken out since he is dealing with the cancer.
What a decision to make at 15 years old, huh?
Three years! I work a couple of hrs. at night cleaning our preschool. Gets me out of the house and I feel like I’m giving back! The kids are soooo sweet! Three and four year olds.
YAY for you, I’m so glad you are enjoying being back at work….GOD IS GOOD!
RE your ?: The longest I was off was 8 months after the birth of my first child, then I started nursing school and have been working my ass off ever since (if only I had a small behind to show for it!…LOL), the next break was 3 months after Sarah was born, and poor Chris only got 6 weeks of me before I had to get back to work!, but frankly, I thinking working is “less” work then being a full time Mom and stay at home wife…..way less work!
when the boys were little, I stayed home for about 2 years, but financially, I had to contribute…..
It is SO hard working and taking care of home.
17 years… wish it had been longer.
I’m 40 and just started my first career at 38. Before that, I worked odd jobs here and there, usually sales or cashiering… I’ve got 3 kids: 21, 15 (almost 16) and 11 years old. It’s always been more fun than working, but I know what you mean as far as feeling guilty for not contributing financially. I have to remind myself that raising kids is more important than most people realize. I love the pictures you have on here!
Thanks for subbing to me!
I feel very fortunate. We’ve seen some pretty lean days, but I became a stay at home mom about 1984, and have not re-entered the ‘real world’ since the first child was born. I have been called upon to fill in as babysitter, worked on free jobs that dealt with floral arranging, cleaning, and helped to take care of my mom before she passed away. Life has kept me busy enough and I can’t imagine working outside the home, taking care of the kids, laundrey. errands, sick parents, bills, housecleaning, dance classes, swimming and diving lessons, etc., etc. It would deinately be an adjustment and the kids would have to drop all their activities and hubby might have to clean after himself-lol!
Sixteen years?
It can be a tough juggling act. I stayed home for 10 years after the girls were born, and part of me misses being home. But, economically, it’s more important that I work. The girls help out quite a bit with the house now, but it still gets overwhelming, especially since I don’t have a traditional Mon-Fri, 9-5 job, and am on call 24/7. But, for now, it’s do-able. I just have to remember that I can’t do it all!
:celebrate: that’s awesome! I definitely know how it feels when there is enough contribution to make it all work
I have gone six months without working. It felt strange going back to work
RYC: thanks, I feel like I’m on the right track. She wasn’t so mean before, but she hates the position she’s in and is simply taking it out on the wrong person. It’s all good, I have thicker skin than I let on. Thank you, I really do appreciate all of your words.
I figured that’s why we haven’t heard from you as much!
I’m not even sure how long I was at home a couple of times when Daughter was younger. Less than five years, for sure. We would get a little further behind every year financially until I went back to work, and then it woudl take a while to get caught back up!
I’d been wondering where you had been, but figured you were busy working. I’m so glad you are enjoying it. Let’s see the longest I have been off from work is three months for maternity leave. Does that count? I’ve worked since high school and have never had any significant time off.
