  • Tis the Season

Who know’s where thoughts come from? They just appear.

                                                                              ~ Lucas, Empire Records (1995)

We’ve been busy, busy, buys – as I’m sure most folks are this time of year. Even those that don’t celebrate any holidays are involved of end of year craziness in their businesses and lives. For me the last week has been a whirlwind of constant nonstop activity. This has included decorating: inside and out, shopping, cleaning (as always – ack, it’s a never ending scenario, I clean it gets dirty, I clean it gets dirty — dang it all where will it end!!!!!!) and helping Squirt get ready for her Musical Theater performance. She’s really amped up. They are doing a musical revue — songs from Sound of Music, Grease, Hairspray and I don’t know what else. It should be good. I’m taking my camcorder — woo hoo!

Still have some decorating to do, but it’s going to have to wait until we get back. That’s right, tomorrow I’m excited to announce we will be heading to CO to see Trans Siberian Orchestra in concert. I LOVE their music. My favorite song is An Angel Returned off of Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It’s excellent and if you haven’t heard it you should find it and listen to it! Warning: if you are even somewhat emotional, be prepared with kleenex.

The following day we will attend the nephew’s graduation. Then the long drive back so kids can get to school on Friday. That should be fun……. hah!

This weekend I plan on breaking out the baking supplies and filling the house with enough Christmas goodies to keep us all pleasantly plump.

I’ve been talking to a lifelong friend, he actually left a comment on the last entry. He’s been giving me some advice – bullying me really – about what to do regarding teaching. See, I’m so frustrated I’ve been thinking of leaving teaching. One of the things he suggested was I make a list of dreams or goals for myself. I answered I already knew what would be at the top of the list. He wanted to know what that was, and now, he’s hounding me about it — that’s what I get for telling secrets! So I’m thinking about it. Pretty seriously. We’ll see what happens. Until then I’ll keep plugging away — working on getting on job to fund my other goals.

I’ve been too busy to do any writing challenges, but both the Kween and Featured_Grownups have great ones posted. Hopefully I’ll get to those soon! Stop by those sites if you get a chance and check them out. OK, I’m off, have to get all the photographic and video equipment ready for tonight. Have a great one everybody!

    Question of the day:

What’s you favorite Holiday Song and why?

  • I am first…………….. :dancingcow: :dancingcow: :dancingcow:

  • I can’t believe all the people that answered the Featured Grownups question already!!!

Favorite song is a hard question, because it changes often.  I love most Christmas music, really.  One of my favorite memories is playing some scratchy old ’45s that belonged to my Gramma, and that were dragged out every year to bring in the season.  I wish my record player worked – I would be so happy to play those every year, although they are nearly worn out!

  • I would love to see Trans-Siberian orchestra-you are so fortunate!!!  I’m like the above poster, I really enjoy those older Christmas songs that remind me of when Christmas was magical and full of hope and expectation.  Now a-days, Christmas is hustle and bustle and decorating and cooking and well, so much work!  I love the holidays, but we started putting up Christmas decorations up the day after Thanksgiving and have yet to finish the job.  It gets overwhelming.  So, when I hear the older Christmas songs, I get the warm fuzzies.  I suppose the association of when I was young makes me love ‘em.  No particular favorites, they’re all great!

I’m glad to hear your not abandoning your dream of teaching all together.  The good thing about listing your dreams and goals is to always keep reaching and never giving up that prize.  I’ve always believed those personal visions came from somewhere within us to keep us striving for the best.  It seems often that dreams are realized right after the goal was about to be abandoned in frustration, so hang in there.

    Enjoy the concert!!!

  • I don’t think I’ll use the pad this year, lol. . .

Maybe I’ll use something equally creative (if more appropriate)

thing is, the angel we have at the top of the tree is just some silly one that was made by I’m not sure who as a kid (I guess it’s supposed to have sentimental value?  I just think it’s tacky)

maybe I could create an angel or something. . .

I guess everyone gets busy at holiday season.

(I know some people who have been busy finishing up this semester of college)

I’ll be busy too since I have a two hour poetry reading to prepare for which I’m giving 10 days from now. . .

  • Have fun!! :big-smile:

  • Oh that sounds awesome! :celebrate: Have fun at the concert!!!

RYC: She cracks me up whenever she does that. She bows to me and growls and waits for my signal…”go get it!” and she runs and runs…grabs a shoe in her mouth and runs and runs, if I let her go up the stairs, she’ll do a full circuit!! Heroes was great but I’m not happy that I have to wait until January for a new episode. I’m upset about Sylar and Nikki…:steamed: The hives are a strange infection, I got all these creams to help clear them up…oy! I’m such a magnet for weird medical problems.

PS: Thanks for the presents!! :celebrate:

  • Have a safe and fun trip to CO.  Happy Baking!

Not sure which Christmas song is my favorite, but I love Silent Night and Away in a Manger.

  • TSO is coming to my town.  I’ve been thinking I should go.  You are one more data point in the decision making process.  Thank you.  I don’t know that I have a favorite Christmas song, but Carol of the Bells is very often repeating in a loop in my head (all year long), so that may be the one.

  • Oh my…I would love to see them perform.  You are very fortunate to be able to enjoy them.  nell made it up to London to see Philip Glassar perform.  I never make it to concerts anymore and I used to love going to the youth symphony performances at Christmas.  Enjoy!!!  Listen extra hard for me too.

RYC:  I’m thinking Christmas in June will make a few neighbors eyes pop open…LOL  Nell loves to decorate and listen to Christmas music.  My favorite song is still White Christmas but this year I’m rather partial to “All I want for Christmas is You.”

    HUGS!!!

  • Is TSO the thing with the light show? If so, I am going to that with Jennie when she gets home.

One of my favorites is the song in my last blog, I like it because it’s different and upbeat. :dancingcow:

  • Have fun! I enjoy their music too and have that CD. Looking forward to hearing all about it!

I think my favorite is “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”…it is a beautiful song and captures the way I feel, both the joy and the sadness of knowing “through the years, we all will be together , if the fates allow”..and sometimes the fates do not allow. So we have to love and appreciate everyone all the time we have with them, and our little furry friends too!

Of course, for pure beauty and goose bumps, “O Holy Night” is wonderful….fall on your knees, oh hear the angels voices!!!!!!!

  • Have fun and drive safely!  Did you hear about the blizzard warning in Hawaii?  I thought of you when I was listening to that this morning.

  • We went to CO in September and we thought it was quite a nice long drive.  Be safe and enjoy.

  • Little drummer boy is my favorite song.
