  • Dream, dream, dream...

    The Kween asks us:

As 2007 comes to a close, how close were your dreams to the reality?

So my dreams for the year 2007 included: Moving to New Mexico, seeing my hubby retire from the military after 26 years, graduating with my Masters, helping out my family (both my parents and my sister), getting back into a classroom teaching, buying a new house, buying a new truck, winning the lottery and losing weight

What’s my score so far? Well…not to bad.

    1. Move to New Mexico - check
    2. Retire from Military - Check
    3. Graduate  - Check
    4. Helping out my family - half check (I have helped, but not in the main ways I really wanted to, I’m still working on this).
    5. Getting back in the classroom -- grrrrrrrr…… still waiting for this dream, it’s becoming more of nightmare.
    6. New House - still renting L Once I get the above done, this one will be closer.
    7. New Truck - I’ve actually think I’ve changed my mind, I’m looking at a crossover vehicle instead, however this one is also dependent on number 5.
    8. Winning the lottery - NOW that would go a long way towards meeting number 6 & 7 -- hey there’s still a month and ½, right? You can’t win if you don’t play!
    9. Losing weight - Hmmm…well still trying to get this straightened out, have another appointment tomorrow and well as a sonogram on Monday. Hopefully then I’ll be able to get things in order and start losing some weight.

Pretty good, overall I would say. This year has been a great year. It’s a year of changes and growth and adaptation. Dreams have come true and goals have been achieved. Not all of our dreams are realities, and in truth some won’t come true but overall it’s been a great year.

Basically my real-life dreams are pretty boring. I’m not really looking for anything too out of reach (ok, except for the lottery, but hey, who DOESN”T want to win the lottery) so in truth the possibility of my dreams become realities isn’t really that far-fetched. Not like when I was a kid and had dreams about being discovered and becoming a famous actor or musician - ignoring the fact that I have no acting talent and only limited musical abilities. Also ignoring the fact that I didn’t choose to participate in any of the activities geared towards success in these fields, screw all that, I just wanted to be the next Valerie Bertinelli and marry Eddie Van Halen.

Nowadays my dreams are much more attainable, albeit a little less exciting. What can I say? Danged if I didn’t grow up somewhere along the way. Hmmm… who knew?

Question of the day: What are your dreams for 2008?

  • It sounds like you've had a very productive 2007!  That's a whole lot of change for 1 year.  There's some list about the top 10 stressful things in life and I think you guys hit the top 5 in 1 year!  Are the girls adjusting well?  They seem to handle it better than us adults anyway, don't they?

Hope you can get in the classroom soon.  I bet you're a terrific teacher.  Maybe you can teach and win the lottery?!  Hey, I'll share the powerball with you.  How can we arrange that?

  • You've definitely had a big year!  Sounds like you're well on your way - and hey, the year's not over yet!  ; )

  • Kudos to you MiLady!  Your 2007 was a very fruitful year indeed!  Why, in just another year, all of those dreams and wishes will be filled and you'll have to come up with some more!  Well done!  You've been starred and linked!!~Kween

  • I STILL want to be like Valerie Bertinelli-only instead of wanting Eddie Van Halen, I want to loose weight with Jenni Craig!  Guess you can tell which of my 'dreams' didn't pan out.

You have had a busy and productive year-I hope you realize that dream of teaching soon.  The world could use a few good teachers and you seem like you'de be a very good one.

  • i need to find a new job for 2008

hope you get what u want hon!

  • That's amazing!! Hope you hit the lottery soon!!

Me? Financial stability and happiness. I don't want to be rich, I just want my pay check to be enough.

  • Looks like you managed to get quite abit accomplished this year.

  • ryc:  I think she (Valeri Bertinelli) keeps her youthful appearace with the extra poundage that fills in the lines-lol!  Well, at least that's what I tell myself when someone older than me looks younger than me...  In all seriousness,  I've always thought she was so cute and used to watch that show with her and Bonnie Franklin and that McKensie Phillips-what was the name of that?

Anyway, your comments gave me something to laugh at.  Have a nice weekend!

  • i didn't dream anything special for this year. so none of them could have come true. i did different types of dreaming... the actual sleeping kind. maybe one day i will have ambitions... until them i'll be happy with the kind of dreams i do have.

  • That's quiet a bit for one year.

  • You've had a big year. I had two goals in 2007 to quit smoking and loose weight. Didn't loose a pound...but I'm smoke free!
In 2008 I would LOVE to start a family and get our budget in order...
ryc: We've been talking about trying ebay...might have to do that after the holidays...it's a good idea.

  • Great job so far! :) My goals for next year are to keep on moving up!

  • I have to many to list here.........I just want to rest more and have a clean house.

  • Sounds like you have come much closer than many of us

    bill

  • Great list & congrats on meeting so many of your goals. And the lottery thing - well, it's my dream as well . peace

  • I think you did a great job in meeting so many of your goals...and even Valerie didn't stay married to Eddie....so that might not have worked out for you either!

  • Ah Valeri Bertineli! I had such a crush on her, the little vixen! Especially after seeing in a red 2 piece swimsuit in some movie I can't remember the name of, but oh that swimsuit. Yowza!!

    Sorry, male moment there.

So far, I'd have to say you're doing the best of this 'list' so far. Much better than me at any rate. I also agree with number 8 - you need to play to win - I've just never felt that lucky.

Ah well, I suppose one dollar a week can't hurt. Can it?

  • :dancingcow: You sound so upbeat.  Yeah, on the education thing.  I love the university setting.  No other place for me except behind a canvas or cranking a printing press.

  • Great post....I think winning the lottery is in all od our dreams!

    Linda
