Finally - some progress!
Yesterday I called AGAIN to check on my application status and ask when I could start subbing. Same ole's same ole' crap. Still waiting on references. 1 is in, 3 came back return to sender, 1 was sent in but had the wrong name at the top - well, not the exact same matching name so they discarded. No cross-referencing, no attempts to match it to any applicants, just sorry, not an exact match, toss. "they don't have time to cross-reference each references.". Arrrghhhh. So I called Sub Services hoping that maybe they could make something happen. They looked at my stuff, conference with whoever and said to come in whenever I wanted and they would start the processing. FINALLY I thought.
So today, after taking the kids, I get dressed in decent clothes, do my hair the works and head down to hopefully start the process and finally get some work. When I first got in I was getting angry - why did I come in? Did we call you to come in? If you application is not completed it won't be released and we can't process you. ARRGHHHHHHHH -- NO! Not again. After some conferencing (again) and talking to the Manager they decide that my one reference is good enough and they begin the processing. Then they start asking about fingerprinting. I explain I did that this summer. Paid for it, when down and found the place, had it done and sent it off with the fees. No - they say - that's not how it's usually done. Where was it sent? When? Who did it? That's not standard operating procedures..... I explain I did it during the summer. They suggest I do it over again, because it will probably be faster that way...uh huh, sure it will. Then one decides, oh - hey, let's go ahead and look her up and see if it's there. The others exclaim that since I've not got my NM license that I won't have a file - etc. blah, blah, blah. Miss I'm so helpful checks anyway and lo and behold - guess what? There it is! AND it's clear and I'm ready to go! I should be done processing next week and I can't tell you how relieved I am to finally be just about ready to work.
Now I just need to get my license so I can get a permanent job!
OK - So I hear you all clamoring for pictures of the boxes. So I went and took some and uploaded them. I also took pictures of the drop-leaf hutch I went to Silver to get and the bookshelves I got last time I went. Now please ignore the mess in the baskets, I did that real quick to get all the stuff off the floor before the BBQ. I'm looking at either painting the plastic boxes to match or replacing them with leather boxes (which is what I'm leaning towards...he he he) I'm also contemplating putting in a shelf to maximize the space. But, I do like the wood grain effect. I still have to decide on the material and make the cushions, but overall - I'm VERY happy with them!
Here's the hutch and bookcases. The bookcases are really three stackable pieces, the bottoms are what the girls utilize to keep the school books and supplies in order (ok, semi-order, although they are organized in this picture).
Question of the day:
Would you drive 100 miles to pick up a piece of furniture?

If I really wanted the furniture I would!!
I really wanted some wooden rockers and a porch swing from Cracker Barrell several years ago. My hubby went to pick them up to surprise me and they only had one chair and no swing at our local one. After calling all over to find them, he ended up going all the way to Illinois to get the matching chair and the swing I wanted. What a guy!
Yup, if I could afford it and wanted it badly enough! We called and drove all over three states looking for a train table for Luke when he was little. Ended up about 100 miles away.
Anyhow, I LOVE the window boxes! They remind me of my coffee table, which I bought at Ikea. It has 6 cubby holes, which hold 2 baskets each. I also bought 2 of the matching end tables. It's the Leksvik collection, if you want to look online. CONGRATS on making so much progress today in the teaching quest!!! RYC: I thought you might be, so I am really looking forward to your perspective on the issue.
Love the hutch! and yes, I'd drive for furniture...but I with the price of gas going up, it would have to be a fabulous piece!
Way to go to work the system! Hope you get settled soon!
That hutch is awesome.........glad to be back.........hugs. :so-cool:
Oh yeah, I will definitely drive 100 miles if I really wanted it and the price was right! And actually my hubby and son are driving 200 miles Saturday to pick up my son's new motorcycle, so they can't say a thing if I did!! lol
*sigh* I think I'm staying in the Angiehamas.
ryc: i think i would want something with hubby's and kids' names somehow but i can't afford a tattoo so.....LOL
My favorite piece of furniture came from a place about a hundred miles away! We were visiting my Mom & Stepdad many years ago when we went to a furniture shop that built the furniture and I fell in love with a huge solid oak armoire! I think they delivered it - I can't remember now! It's in my bedroom and I have baskets in some of the shelves.
Great job with the wood effect. I think I would get tall leather baskets, all the same height. And - are you going to use it as a window seat?
I've driven 100 miles for less so yep, I'd do it for a piece of furniture. So do you hire your husband out? The storage area looks great! Love the baskets :big-smile:
RYC: Yes, I hope it does soon too. We're probably going to switch companies because our local cable company IS RIDICULOUS!! :steamed:
That furniture looks awesome!! Go you!! I love it!
Sounds like you got through to them finally, yay!! I hope there are no more bumps in your path! Good luck deary!
Well, I drove 100 miles to pick up a dog that I didn't even want (Chris's dad wanted it), so, yeah, I probably drive that far to get a piece of furniture I really wanted.
By the way, what will it take for you to get your license to teach in a different state? You won't have to go back to school for anythng different that's required in this state, will you?
