I may be in denial...
I should have known.
Yesterday, I cleaned the entire house. OK, well not the entire house, but the large majority of it. I vacuumed the living room, office, family room and craft room. I swept the kitchen, dining room and two hallways, I cleaned both the girls bathrooms and cleaned the kitchen twice - no three times. I also cleaned up the spare bedroom that Duckman slept in while he stayed here. Washed all the linens for that room. I also dyed two bath rugs for Squirts bathroom (they were originally white, I dyed them bright purple) and primered a new table we bought for her room so that she could paint it.
All day as I worked I kept thinking "I should sit down and take a break" or "I should se my timer and work for 15 minutes, and then take a break for 15 minutes", but I did neither. I just kept working. This is unfortunately a MO for me. This happens whenever I start to get sick. An excellent example of this is when I was 16. My sister had recently moved out and I was going to take over her old room. It was much bigger than mine, and cooler in the summer for sure. I decided one day to make the switch, although my mom had offered to help me on the weekend, I for some reason just couldn't wait. I cleaned both rooms, vacuumed and dusted and then began moving the furniture. Her leftovers out and mine in. I finally collapsed on the bare mattress after getting the last of the furniture in and in place. My mom found me there when she got home. I had a temp of 104.0 - Course my mom was pissed. A trip to the dr. the next day informed me I had severe tonsillitis.
What I've found out is that when I work like that when I'm getting sick, I get much sicker because I wear myself out and weaken myself rather than give myself a chance to recuperate. Early on in our marriage hubby also discovered this. He'd come home to find the house immaculate - I mean baseboards cleaned, windows cleaned, walls wiped - the works. He got to the point where he would come home to this and ask "Are you sick?". To which I usually replied "NO!" all offended only to get up the next morning with a fever, throwing up or something equally horrible. Over the last 5 years or so I've learned to recognize this and overcome it. But I had a serious relapse yesterday. When I finally quit for the day around 5:00 pm, I plopped down in the chair and grabbed the remote. A few minutes later I realized I was feeling poorly. My head was achy, my throat was sore and my nose was stuffy. Crap. I'd done it again.
When will I ever learn?
Sigh.
I'm on the couch with a blanket and the remote. Trying to rest up as the girls and I need to go birthday shopping for Hubby today -as his birthday is tomorrow. We are going to try to go to the balloon fiesta tomorrow, and possibly Saturday morning. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to share later. Right now I'm going to go visit everyone.
Question of the day:
How do you deal with getting sick?

i find when i do too much i get sick because my immune system is compromised to begin with. i get over colds much longer than normal people. i still have the cold i got a week before vacation. still coughing and it's been 2 weeks. i'll feel fine and then do too much and realize it didn't go away it was just hybernating.
Oh, my dear sweet husband waits on me hand and foot, bringing me breakfast, lunch, and dinner in bed along with any meds I might need. And of course he rubs my feet everynight that I'm sick until I fall asleep..... :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
Seriously, back to reality. When I feel like I'm getting sick I take that Airborne and I do feel like it works great. I don' think I'm sick as long as when I didn't take it. They also sell a jr. version of it. Hope you feel better soon.
At first I was feeling really bad for you. Then I thought, "want to come get sick at my house?". Bad I know. At least you're sick in a spotless house. The last time I got sick my house was already trashed and in need of desperate help. Seriously though, I hope you feel better very soon.
When I am feeling rotten, I become a slug. A hibernating slug. I hope you feel better soon.
well i have found myself being bombarded with reading things bad mouthing christians, jesus, and some of my own values and i am rather tired of it. at first it seems like it's all for fun but after 5 and 6 post and reading it over and over and over again i am having enough and want to know if it is truely just for fun or bigotry that is behind the posts. it's the same if you hate someone for a color or weather they are rich or poor... hate is hate and you have to recognize it before you can get rid of it.
:frog:Being sick STINKS!!
How bizzare. When I'm getting sick I take my fat ass to bed and stay there. :hammer: :sicky: feel better soon
Oh, no, 'tis the season! I've noticed I do that a little too, because right before I get sick I feel absolutely marvelous! And then when I AM sick I will be all bullheaded and cranky and just keep attempting to go on with everything, but not being very happy about it!
Hope the achy stuffy head stuff is just from stirring up all that dust! Feeling better today, I hope? :sicky:
i usually do the denial thing til i get really bad...then i sleep tons
:sicky: :sleepy: I hope you feel beeter soon! Get some rest....
It's rare that I get sick, really sick. I'll feel punky, feel like I'm coming down with something, then it'll pass. When I do get sick, I take o my bed and sleep!
RYC: Thanks you! The neighbors are back to normal, I had to bring work home so she made sure I took a break and fed me and wouldn't let me leave until I looked full and satisfied. My guest signed her lease on Wednesday :celebrate: Now if I could handle work, I'd be golden.
OH NO!!! No sick fo you!!! Feel better! How do I handle sick? I still go to work until they kick me out and then whine and sleep...a lot. :ROTFL:
Wow, a cleaning premonition to sickness! Hmmm! Your body must know that you are getting sick and the nesting instinct kicks in. Interesting!
In any event, I hope you are feeling back to normal soon.
How do I deal with getting sick . . . I usually drink a lot and take as much Vitamin C that my body can handle.
