  • Birthday Bash

So movie night was a great hit. All of Ducky's friends had fun and many left with new colored hair - purple, purple tips and green streaks. It was one of those situations where 1 friend had it planned and the others just jumped on the band wagon. I was nervous, asking whether or not parents had knowledge and would approve - I was sure that these girls would never be allowed over my house again. However, Ducky assured me that all the parents were A-OK with it -- WHEW!!

Squirt's birthday went very nice - we fixed her favorite dinner items - BBQ Brisket, grilled corn-on-the-cob, and baked potatoes. To finish it off we had a Ben and Jerry's ice cream cake -- oh my gosh!!! So good! We had Chocolate Fudge and Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream with cake and waffle cone crust covered in a dark chocolate layer with M&M flowers on it. YUM!! LOVED that. She was very happy with her presents. She got a new iPod nano, a CD, 2 books, a new set of white converse with fabric markers (to decorate them) and money and a gift card.

Tonight we are taking her and some friends putt-putt golfing. They will also make a cake. Kind of a tradition around here - the kids make the cake themselves and decorate it with their friends. One year Ducky and her friends broke up into teams and had a race to see who's team could get their layer mixed, baked and iced first. There was frosting everywhere. At any rate they all enjoy the process and have fun, the cakes are quite interesting to look at some times. I think we will also have burgers and hot dogs -- easy and inexpensive.Besides I already have chips and dips!

Tomorrow we are celebrating Peter's Birthday - his Birthday is the day after he leaves, but we won't have time before then since we are going to Silver this week end and Monday night (his last night here) Ducky and Duckman want to go out by themselves. Very sadly, my mother's good friend and neighbor passed on yesterday. She's been quite ill, fell several times and had quit eating. She was 93. She was an amazing lady, but she didn't want to live in a nursing home, she wanted to die in her "little house" as she called it. She was a musician that actually played piano / organ at the silent movies to accompany the story. She really was very interesting. She will be missed. At the same time, she was soooo unhappy in the nursing home. She just wanted to go home. She was in a lot of pain from her falls, and she was down to nothing because she couldn't swallow, so eating was difficult. It wasn't good. Before she went to the nursing home, she was in a rehabilitation hospital, and I took a great picture of her with my mom. I think for Christmas, I'm going to paint that portrait for my mom. I think she would like that.

Hubby's birthday is also coming up. Jeesh. I need a birthday break. Also Alice Cooper is coming the day before Halloween. But, Trans-Siberian Orchestra tickets for December just went on sale and personally I would rather do that. If I have to choose, that's my choice!

Well I have to go get cake mixes and burger stuff. Hope everyone has a great day!

  • RYC: You are so sweet. I might keep it open just so I don't have to hassle getting a new one etc. Good idea. I will have to think about it. Glad the birthday was nice. Ed's Andrew's and My mom's are all in the next two weeks. 13, 15, 22. Yikes. We are having a 40th get together for Ed's next Saturday. Pizza. It's the easiest. LOL. I have yahoo messenger. Will message you the screen name. I will miss reading all about your family adventures. Of course if I keep the account I can still read. Hmmmmm.

  • You sure are birthday bashing at your house! Sounds like fun.

The story of your mom's friend is like my paternal grandmother. She was always a very independent woman, was a teacher and owned her own car, which was unusual for a woman at that time. She didn't marry until she was 28, and people were thinking she would always be an old maid. She lived alone for years after my grandfather passed, but kept falling and was in and out of the hospital. She said she would never live in a nursing home, but after the last time she was in the hospital. the doctor said she couldn't go home alone. My parents moved her to a nursing home right around the corner from their house so they could see her daily. She passed away that night, even though she had been doing really well at the hospital. We always said it was because she was determined not to be dependent on anyone and live in a nursing home.

  • I can just feel the waist line tightening already with all those cakes.

I love to make cakes and what not.  Sweets I can dish out fast.

Happy Birthday to all those who have celebrated this week.

    Your sure keeping busy.

My youngest loves to go putt-putt golfing.

  • You are one busy person with all these parties!  The cake making sounds fun though.

  • I am such a RENThead....just FYI...

  • Sounds like quite a party and you are a very cool Mom...of course, as your children age, they will disavow any knowledge of you and your "alleged" coolness. :big-smile:

I finally got to do my ABC's!

  • god lord you are bombarded with birthdays! i have never heard of so many in one place except my aunt who's had every child on the same week... we beleive she only likes to have sex once a year and her kids being born the last week of october is just the clue we needed.

  • I like that tradition of the kids making a cake - wish I'd thought of that!

  • What an awesome tradition! Sorry about your mom's friend, the gift sounds like a great idea.

    BTW um...do you sleep????

RYC: It never did, my blog remained open all day and every time I sat down to try to type, work got in the way and then...poof! Gone forever...oh well

  • How was the putt putt?  I used to love putt putt but our place closed down :so-sad:  Your October sounds like our March, Anthony (the cousin who lived with us till he graduated high school then moved back to SC) March 1st, Tony and dh's Mom on March 11th, our anniversary on the 15th and then Trey's b-day on the 21st.  It's a killer on the purse!

  • How fun coloring their hair different colors. Yummmm BBQ Brisket, I will be right over. My house is like your's in June, there are five birthdays. Between the span three weeks, it is crazy.

  • :so-cool: ALICE COOPER! :celebrate: :celebrate: :celebrate:
I am with ya there. Lots of birthdays this month?
Must be cause it is generally cold 10 months prior to October, heheheeh.

  • So your waist line is gettting in trouble all over the place.   Yeah that halloween candy never stays in the house.   I usually eat the first two bags.  Then I have to wait til just before trick or treating and get more.   I didnt say that....  We need our chocolate rush to keep going.

  • she's had 3 in one week of october. one boy two girls. one of her children's birthdays falls elsewhere (i don't remember where) but it's only because he was born before she was his mother (adopted).

  • You sound like such a fun Mom.  I think I'm going to have to let go of some of my control freak issues as these kids get older.  I want to be a fun Mom like you!
