  • Ahh the joys of vaccines

Yesterday Squirt had her physical. We love being near an base again just for the health care. While we used to complain about the clinics, now after three years of civilian health care, we are glad to be home! At any rate, we found out she was due for some shots, 1 required 2 highly recommended – one of which included the HPV vaccine. So we discussed it with the doctor, read the information and went ahead with them. She got 3 immunizations yesterday. She was sore and very unhappy.

Well today she woke up with a terrible headache. (not unusual for day after shots). She also complained she wasn’t feeling well. Hubby advised her to eat something so her tummy wouldn’t be upset. She tried to get down a pop tart and it refused to cooperate. Her take on this:

Squirt: “you know what’s bad about throwing up BEFORE you eat? You throw up your stomach acid”.

    Me: “It’s called bile”.

    Squirt: “That’s GROSS!”

Poor baby. We called the Immunization clinic to find out with this is a common reaction (didn’t remember reading about it) and they said no, we might want to have her seen. Called the Peds clinic and had a phone consult with on of the Nurses. Not a common reaction, the headache and fever are, but the throwing up aren’t. So we’re to watch her, try to get some fluids down and see if she improves. They will call us back about noon. They said she could just have come down with a bug at the same time. Seems to coincidental to me. Especially since during her physical yesterday the doc declared her in perfect health. We’ll see. She did just go back to school, and she’s not quite adjusted yet to the constant exposure she gets from all the mass of kids. That was the nice thing about home schooling, the kids were rarely ill. *sigh*

Ducky is more adjusted and tromped off to her third day of school. So far she’s got: two essays to write, about 80 pages of text book reading to do, had one 100 question test, and done about 100 math problems in her first two days. I think this will be a tough year for her, she’s definitely up to the challenge, but they are going to keep her busy!

OK – I’m off to do my homework, more job hunting and finishing off my credential requirements. Have a great day all!

  • Shots are no fun. I pray Squirt gets feeling better.

  • how old is squirt again? some vaccines have been known to give more problems than benefits. and the younger the child the more severe the problems. i watch too much dateline though so it could be my dateline encyclopedia jumping to conclusions. i do hope it’s just a cold.

analyze all you want i’m just experiencing them

  • I hates needles.  Especially after the mess a nurse did to me.   She took blood for a blood test and scraped my vein.  Honey I did turn black and blue up my arm for weeks.   Trust me she never ever gets close to me again.

     Hope yours is doing ok.

RYC from_mine_to_yours yep been homeschooling for over twenty years.   I started when my oldest was little and the mess with schools started.   I swore up and down mine werent going to get hurt.    Yeah my youngest is a little more difficult to homeschool because he must be watched and has a short attention span.  He is something in math and can do it with ease..   Other stuff you rn for cover when you try to teach him.  Pulls hair out and screams.  He is getting better thank goodness.

RYC from oh_mother_may_I I dont think it corny to still be in love with your hubby and your soul mate.  Happy 21 st Anniversary coming up.   Lucky girl.

  • Poor Squirt!  I don’t like shots either.

She can always read Edward again.  That always makes me feel better!! :wink-wink:

  • Oh, poor Squirt!  Immunizations are no fun, and I’m a huge needle-phobe, myself.  I hope she is feeling better now.

I noticed a huge difference in our own amount of colds when Daughter went off to college and was not bringing home germs all the time.

  • Poor kid. I feel bad for her. Three? That stinks. I hope she is feeling better. Andrew’s first day went well. His Chem teacher is boring and his Euro history is weird. Other than that he seemed to have a good day.

  • Poor Squirt, no fun to have shots AND feel sick!…I am hoping she is on the mend by now…..and MAN, Ducky has a major load this year, I am glad she is up for the challenge…good luck to you on the job hunt, I am sure it is just a matter of time.

RYC: Sarah had a “rhinoplasty”, that is a fancy name for a “nose job”, it seems her nose was broken during a cheer stunt gone wrong….I told you I HATE all this cheer stuff…first her shoulder, and now her poor nose!

  • hellooooooooo

awww sorry to hear that she isnt feeling good. I hope she gets better soon poor girl.:sicky:  So how do you like it there since you are settle in. i sure did miss alot have to do  catch up. have a great day

  • I hate getting shots.  Used to scream my head off if they came near me with a needle.  Because of that I was prepped for Nell.  Always made sure she had something else to focus on.  The problem with vaccines results mostly when a child has too many at the same time.  I would never let Nell have three at a time, instead I would make additional appointments.

RYC:    Phil may be traveling again soon as Scott has a couple of job offers on the table.  Yay!!  (for Scott that is…not the traveling)

    HUGS!!!

  • Bile…No bueno…Yuck!

Hope you are having a great day!

    Hugs!

  • Quilting isnt all that hard. I bet you could do it.

  • i hate when the kids are sick

it makes me feel so bad….so helpless.

hope she feels better soon :)
