  • Can you say ouch?

Since we are going out again tonight I thought I would improve the looks a little. I had a coloring kit to cover the gray, and I stopped yesterday and got something to wax the moustache with. Being hispanic, I am cursed with lots of hair, not only on my head but places I don’t want it, like my upper lip and my chin. So – I wax. Usually I stick to one brand that works pretty efficiently for me. While at the store my hubby was reading different brands and suggested I try a new one that didn’t require strips.

    This is it:

    surgi wax

Since it was affordable and we don’t have jobs, I choose it. So I got home today and read the directions carefully. I even stopped and got a small bottle of baby powder to use as directed.  I heated the wax – which did NOT go as suggested in the instructions. I applied the thin layer in the direction indicated. I waited 10-15 seconds and reached up to peel back one edge to pull and then the fun began.

The strip did not peel. It came off in little globs – not one even piece. And it hurt. A LOT! I had read that if you let it cool it will be extremely difficult to remove so I started trying to remove these chunks as quickly as possible. It was useless. Some wax just would not come off.

Tears were rolling down face and I was starting to panic just little. I tried picking it off. Rubbing it off. Peeling it off and scratching it off. Nope – nada. So. Not only do I have a hairy upper lip, it’s now coated with snot green wax that will not come off. Finally hubby (who felt semi-responsible) suggested I use one of his clean T-Shirts like a muslim strip. That removed most of it and some olive oil took care of the rest.

Needles to say, the remainder of the Surgi wax is now residing in the trash. It was quite and ordeal, and I feel somewhat traumatized. I think I have now have PTSD. (just kidding of course).

    Question of the day:

Wax, alternative methods or all natural?

  • Oh, I feel for you! Ouch! I am a big sissy when it comes to waxing so I pretty much stick to bleaching it or the depilitories like Nair.

  • HOLY COW!!!! I say stick to the brand you know. Most of the time, any kind of wax that doesn’t require the use of the strips can be quite tricky, but my point is redundant considering you already found that out. My roommate has the same issue and she uses one of those small personal electric razors she got for 10 dollars at Wal-Mart.

Perhaps once you get the job situation under control, you can look in to getting them threaded. It’s a wee more expensive than waxing but I think it’s much better for your skin. I get my eyebrows done that way and I’ve never looked back. I got some of my friends turned on to it also. If your interested in learning more, shoot me a message, I’ll be more than happy to help!

  • i have never waxed anything of mine. i use to shave a lot (legs) but i am gifted with not much hair and the hair i have is light color so i don’t shave very often. i also wear pants most of the time so i don’t feel the need to be doing that too much. i have used tweezers on things that pop up in other places and have had my eyebrows waxed at the salon before. i like the way they look but sometimes it doesn’t come off like it should (kind of like your experience here).

  • oh honey! i feel so bad for you!

  • I usually tweeze my unwanted facial hair because I am too afraid to try things like bleach and wax. But I am looking for something a little more long term. What brand of wax do you usually use that you are so happy with?

  • I think I’ll choose natural :big-smile:  Wow  that is one product I will not buy!  I have some chin hairs I think I’ll leave them be.

    Have a great day  Hugs

  • Holy :dancingcow:  That sounds painful!

  • Yikes! I can’t imagine! Waxing scares me. As far as my face goes I stay natural.

  • I do the waxing bit at the salon.  I’m lucky that most of the unwanted hair on my face is blond.  It looks fuzzy though and I hate it.

  • Yikes, what an ordeal.  Sounds like a terrifying experience.  I’m glad you don’t have any long-term affects from it, like a rash.  I’m too chicken to wax.  The only thing I have waxed is my eyebrows and I usually have someone do it for me, so I just shave.

  • I’m sorry.  I just had to laugh.  :big-smile:  Begin that I am white as a sheet, luckily all of my facial hair is blond so I don’t have to worry about the stach.  I can see it but no one else can unless they are standing nose to nose with me in which case their eyes would cross and they wouldn’t see it anyway.  LOL. I do get my eyebrows waxed so they don’t look like one big caterpillar but I go to a lady that charges $12 bucks.  It is worth it to me.  I did try the Avon one and it was horrible.  Sort of like your experience only not the snot green wax globs.

  • I’ve tried the at-home was, with a bit of success, but find ti too muc work for what it does.  I’d rather shave the legs and pluck the facial hairs.  Besides. even getting the upper lip waxed at the salon, I end up with little tiny whiteheads!
