  • New Toys

Maybe you remember I wrote about gadget envy awhile ago — probably not, it’s not like it was earth shattering or life-changing or any nonsense like that.

Why bring this up you may query (again, probably not, who queries anymore anyways)?

Well … just look at what I got last night!

    Ain’t she purty??

I’ve never had a video camera before. That’s right – you read it right – NEVER. I’m maybe one of the last hold outs in the US. Everyone I know has a video camera of some sort. They have for many years actually. I’ve thought of getting one. But in the end I always convince myself that I don’t really need it and that I probably wouldn’t  a) use it and  b) look at the footage if I did use it.

So why now? What’s happened that has finally torn down the remaining walls of resistance? Easy – Ducky’s confirmation, Hubby’s retirement from the Air Force, and my Graduation with my Master’s. All of these major life events are taking place far from friends and family and I know some of them (admittedly, not all will care to) will want to watch as we move through these milestones.  So, I researched, made my choice and went shopping! Woot!

Convincing hubby was remarkably easy – I just told him I wanted to buy a set of tires — muhahahahaha. For those who know us, they may remember that in CA I had 4 complete sets – including rims – of tires stacked on my carport. Add the two sets on each of the BMW’s that came to 6 sets of tires! Recently hubby has purchased two complete sets — and mind you, tires for his babies are not discount tires. Especially the racing ones! So — not to hard to convince him that I could buy any camera my little heart desired, but of course I choose wisely, not lavishly (although the new JVC that records right to an internal hard drive — sweet, and the new HD ones — very sweet). I however, did take into account that we are moving in a month and that neither of us will have a job in a month. Something to consider for sure!

    So question of the day:

Do you have a video camera and if so do you use it and what for?

  • RYC: thank you very much. Sometimes it takes walking through all that pain … to come out clearer on the other side.

I love cameras. :) I sooo want a better video camera so I can record events at my kids’ schools!

  • 6 sets of tires?!?!!!! OMG, why oh why?

Nope, I don’t have a video camera, I gave Mike one when Chris was born, I think he used it for about 6 months, and it has sat in the closet for the last 11 years, seriously!

Until I got a digital camera i never even took pictures…well, that isn’t true, I took pictures, I just rarely got the film developed, those cute white disposible camera that you see at weddings, that are at each reception table?…Yep, those, we had them at our reception, didn’t get them devloped until we had been married 7 years…..honest!

But, it does look like a reall nice gadget….hum, maybe if it were digital i would use it too?…..NAW.

Have a good weekend……go to a beach for me!

  • We actually had one of the big over-the-the-shoulder monsters that recorded to tape, many years ago.  We used it a lot when our daughter was young, for things she was in – graduating from “safety school” was one of the first ones.  I haven’t used it for eons – not sure you can even buy the batteries any more!  I can record a tad bit of video on my digital camera, although heaven help me if I need to know how to do that in a hurry!

Have fun with the new toy!

  • I have one.  Haven’t used it in YEARS!  If I could upload video from it to the web, I might have used it more.  But my little Kodak Easy Share camera can record a fairly long video (when I have a big memory card in it), and while it isn’t great quality, it works for the sorts of things I want to record video of, AND I can upload it.    Have fun with your new toy!!!

  • Very cool.  I have never owned a video recorder, but have been toying with the idea in recent months.  Let me know how quickly you feel like you can’t live without it.

  • Congrats on the new video recorder and yes, I have one.  I think I have the exact one you have in fact.  Special occasions are always caught on video, but I like my digital camera for the most part.  I LOVE my video, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that I only have so many hands…

I have great video of vacations, babies births (no-not the gross stuff, just the weighing in, etc.) and other life events for posterity.  I wonder if all is in vain as the electronics industry changes so quickly and while now cd’s and dvd’s are whats happening, next week, it might be different.

All in all, I’m very glad to have both video, dvd, and digital.  It’s a wonderful time we live in isn’t it?  We’ll always remember it too.

  • yes we have one and we use to use it all the time when the kids where little. So now we just use the digital. I should dig it out and use it lol. Woohoo on the new camera you will have a blast with it

  • i have a kodak z650, with camera and video. i take pictures for fun, for family and I video the boys sporting events.
    i love photography!

  • I do not have a video camera…I wish I did. I used to, but hubby got custody of it in the divorce. I used to tape my girls doing all kinds of things when they were little. My little one was just a baby when we split, so I have no home movies of her.  :sigh:

RYC: thank you. I wish now I had taken a picture of the back of her dress. It was cut much lower and had thin black straps that criss-crossed all the way down. But, of course, that didn’t occur to me until just now.  :o h-no:

  • we have a video camera but don’t use it much anymore.  we should though.  she sure is purty!!!!

  • cool, no I never had a camera before but I have one on my regular camera that works like crap if you have ever seen my videos.

  • I don’t have one either, but my digital camera will film a minute or so, but of course, no sound. I think they are really cool. My cousin did some excellent interviewing with some of our older relatives with one of the much other models. I think they do make very good toy! Glad you got one for all your big occasions coming up. Wow, time is flying isn’t it? Not too long until you guys move, that must bring mixed emotions.

    Excllent reading choice, re-reading?

  • Nice camera. We have one, but I use my regular camara for video more often . Because the one we have is much bigger, and takes for ever to charge. So maybe if we got a smaller one.

  • Ooh, nice!  Have fun with it!

    Trish

  • Hey thanks so much for visiting my site! Nice to meet a fellow Robin Hood fan! :big-smile:

  • Ooooo, me likey! That’s funny…I was like you, one of the last five people on earth who doesnt have a video camera…until just this week. We got one two. Great minds think alike huh? I’ve always wanted one I just always seemed to find some better to do with the money. But recently I decided I wanted to be able to tape my daughter some while she was still little. I wish I’d of had one when she was really little. I probably wont want to watch anything that I’m in either but I know I will be taping like crazy! Anyway, good for you…those are huge events that you will now have physical memories for : )

  • Wow, that’s pretty!  I’ve never owned a video camera.  I’d probably waste a lot of film on my cats LOL.  I just got my first MP3 player this weekend.  Gadgets are fun.

  • Never? Til Now? Wow you are the last great holdout of the electronic age. LOL. Seeing as Ed is in the media and video is what he does, we have always had a camera. We had the big huge ones from back in the day. Now we have the same one you have. I love it. We haven’t had too many opportunities to use it lately but we are taking it to Hawaii.

  • Never have had a video camera, and probably never will.  We take thousands of still pictures, but don’t see a point to movies of our lives.  I always enjoy seeing others’ still pictures and yours are always especially  nice.  Love the locations!
