  • Dinner and a movie, but not in that order.

I’ve had some opportunity to relax just a tad in between the mayhem of mad house cleaning, confirmation prep, graduation prep and moving prep. I’ve seen several excellent movies and a couple of good ones in the last two weeks. I finally got to watch 300. Although the gory was a bit excessive at times (the tree and the wall jump rapidly to mind) it was an excellent film that I thoroughly enjoyed. We also rented The Guardian from Netflix — Again — AWESOME! Loved that, I knew the what was going to happen in the end, but just couldn’t believe it did! Also rented The Holiday which was just a perfect chick flick for the prelude to my favorite monthly visitor (please understand that this is literally dripping with sarcasm at this point). And then Squirt ordered Employee of the Month on pay per view to watch with her friends last night and it too was mildly amusing.Predictable but amusing.

The best part of my weekend had to be dinner with Alicia and Mike — also known as akbo1955.

They prepared a wonderful meal of grilled salmon, fresh salad, rice and some kind of sauce, which I now know how to make but forget the name of….. <draws complete blank> hmmm, I know it filipino and that it’s delicious! They also served pupus of cheese and fruit an overall scrumptious dinner! Thanks again Alicia! It was a very nice and relaxing night. That day we had gone the back side of the road to Hana so hubby could see some of it. I have a few pics, as well as some pics of Ducky and Duckman’s hair, although it’s faded some since it’s been several weeks since they dyed it. I love to be out with them and see all the looks they get. Basically, the looks fall in three categories:

    a) That’s so cool — they gaze in wonder

    b) anger — the look affronted and pissed off that these “hoodlums” are in “their” vicinity.

    c) fear — they look terrified that these “punks” will at any moment abandoned their sweet smiles and genial nature and turn on them drawing hidden weapons to pillage and burn them.

It’s really quite amusing. I like to walk behind them, just watching the people watch them. And believe me, the people make no bones about how they feel. They pull their kids closer, clutch their purses tighter or stare in open admiration, fear or anger. I’ve learned a lot about the judgements of people just from my daughter having her hair pink. Squirt has purple streaks in her hair. You should see the looks we get in church. Just about everyone who knows us is cool, and we’ve had several comments about how Duckman and Ducky match (he’s come to church with us the last two weeks). It is really rather hilarious. As guess, as long as we all have a good sense of humor, it doesn’t bother any of us — certainly not Ducky, Duckman or Squirt – and I say good for them!

Tomorrow I have jury duty. Not looking forward to it. Normally I don’t mind jury duty, I’ve just got a lot going on right now, I don’t really need this. I hope to get dismissed early (my luck I’ll get picked and serve on trial for the next 4 weeks — that would really suck).

I’ll post pictures tomorrow of Ducky and Duckman’s hair. As to the inquires whether I would post pictures of the hair doughnut….uh NO! I’ll think about it, but don’t get your hopes up!

I’m off for now. Question of the day — how would you respond  to the hair: a, b or c?

  • I was just going to ask – does nobody SMILE about the hair?  That’s what I would do!  I just think it is kids being kids.  And it’s just hair.   So I choose   : )

  • Oh I can’t wait to see the pics. I would definitely be more in group a. I agree with suzyQ too. I’d just smile. Mostly in admiration. I’ve always thought it would be cool to pull off pink or blue hair a la Gwen Stefani :) I don’t think I could do it.

  • a. being a child of wild hair in my teenage years. :) I was also staired and an outcast in highschool for those reasons.

    :big-smile:

  • I would like to add a choice D)  I am generally entertained by the things teens do with their hair, not in a laugh at them kind of way, but in a oh, aren’t they cute kind of way.

  • Hair–the two things teenagers have control over are hair and homework.  My son’s was shoulder length and BLUE when he was 15!!

  • WHAT? No pictures of halo hair? Awww come on.  Just one.  Can’t wait to see the pink hair.  I would think it was cool and humorous.  I like to see individuals expressing themselves.  Sounds like you had a nice weekend.  Yummy food and good movies.  We saw The Holiday and even Ed thought it was pretty cute.  Good luck on getting out of Jury Duty.  Hopefully they will let you go since you are so dang busy with everything you have going on.  You are one busy lady.

  • sounds like you had a great time with the friends! To me the hair doesnt bother me on kids. Its just hair color. i cant belive some people act like that! Crazy isnt it? Cant wait to see the pictures!

  • It’s called Filidende sauce, and it is great, isn’t it?….so easy to make too, glad you both liked it….Mike and I had so much fun with you all at dinner, I am sorry that you won’t be there when we are back with the kids in July, I would have loved for my kids to meet yours.

As for the hair, I don’t think I would fall in any of those categories, more on the “Wonder if that is permanent or if it washes out?” sort of view….we saw a mother daughter at Ace with blonde and blue hair, and the mother was in her 50′s and daughter in her 30′s, I wondered if the grandkids had blonde and blue hair too?…LOL

  • I don’t really care what people-kids or adults do with their hair, that doesn’t bother me and really, I understand teens and having fun-even with hair.  I’m glad you all keep your sense of humor around these people, that outlook will serve you well.  Your teens must be well adjusted to handle this rudeness with laughter.

boo-to jury duty.  I hope you get off!

I haven’t seen 300-but my 2 oldest dd’s did and weren’t as thrilled as the guys in the group who all went together was.  Last Holiday was a fun movie.

  • i’ll have to get those movies.  :)   hope you have had a great day sweetie!

  • Godd movie list! Although, I’m not a fan of 300. It’s just not my kinda thing but the hubby, and everyone else we know, loved it. I thought that The Guardian and The Holiday were both really good and Employee of the Month was much more decent than I had expected it to be…..I think Jessica can sing her butt off but the acting…not so great : )
