  • Wild Hogs

Went to a movie last night. Not 300, although the rest of the country is in line to see it. Nope, hubby was in the mood for a comedy. He wanted to laugh out loud and release some stress. A week or so ago I went to so Wild Hogs while waiting for the kids to get done with roller skating. I thought it was hysterical  — so off we went.

Wild Hogs is the story of 4 urban middle-aged bikers who decide to go on a road trip to “rediscover” themselves.  It stars John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William Macy. I have to say that is just laugh out loud funny. And despite what you might predict, John Travolta is the one who really makes the movie. The others are all hysterical, but John plays his character so well and so darn funny! Quite the enjoyable movie. I love movies that make me feel good. After all, that’s what I’m dropping all that money for, to be entertained. Admittedly, it’s not that difficult to amuse me, but it still requires some thought and effort nonetheless!

What is with the price of movies these days? Jeesh. You’d think that it was a Broadway show. By the time you’ve paid the $9.00 / person and then dropped another 20.00 – 30.00 at the concession stand you talking a fifty just take in a movie.Remember when the popcorn and drinks weren’t more expensive than the tickets? Heck remember when the tickets were just a couple of bucks? Then for a long time in Tucson we had the buck movie theaters. Those were great, you got in for a buck or a buck fifty and saw second run movies. Cheap candy, popcorn and sodas rounded out the deal. That meant as teens we were able to go to several movies a week on our meager allowance.

Nowadays you would have to take out a second mortgage to see several movies a week.

Regardless, we had a great time, laughed the entire movie and thoroughly enjoyed the final scene (especially me, since I am an Extreme Makeover Home Edition fan). If you go to see Wild Hogs, stay till after Ty comes on!

I’m off to have some burgers and watch an old war movie. Everyone have a great night and a great Sunday.

  • I have heard a lot of people say how much they enjoyed that movie, which surprised me from what I saw of the previews.  It just didn’t look that great to me from those, but now I am thinking I am going to have to see it, too.   If I can scrape up the money!  You’re right, the cost is unbelievable.  We never get concessions anymore.

  • I’ve heard others say how funny that movie is. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the previews, but maybe I’ll drag my hubby to go see it.

  • Sounds like a good one for me and my hubby!

  • I wondered if it was as funny as it looks! I love movies that make me laugh or cry! :)

  • I would go see it again too, if it didn’t cost and arm and leg to go. I agree with you. Too bad movie entertainment has to be so darn expensive. Hope your day is going well. The end was so funny. I love Ray Liotto too. And all those burly guys crying because of their makeover. Funny

  • i loved dollar movies

  • I’d like to see Wild Hogs, maybe when it comes out on dvd.  Dh and Tony went to see 300 opening weekend at 2:45 in the morning, there’s never been and will likely never be a movie made I want to see THAT bad   Anyway, they enjoyed so that’s all that matters.

  • Yeah movies are so expensive…………man………..I want to see that movie, but will probably wait until it is on video…………Hope you had a great weekend…………..hugs.:celebrate:

  • That’s why I subscribe to Netflix.  I rarely see the inside of a movie theatre anymore.

  • I haven’t been to the movies in sooo long… The kids go, but never buy concessions.  Just too much $$!

  • I know the prices are so high! we spent 40 dollars for 5 of us to get in then spent 25 dollars on the food and drinks! I will have to see that movie. 300 is good hubby and the kids went to see it. Have a great day today!

  • Oh, I am sooo much older than you!  I remember paying $.50 for a movie and spending another $.50 at the Candy Box, the local sweet shop, to get a whole bag of candy!

  • John Travolta has really come a ways since “Welcome Back Kotter” hasn’t he?  I really think I’de like this movie too.

We never go out to the movies-or rather we rarely go out for the reaon mentioned in your post.  For our family of 9,  just admission is out of reach.  We wait for the movie to be released and then watch it.  I don’t know how dating couples afford the cost of dinner and a movie anymore…
