And we go up and then down, up and then down
Today we went out on the boat again. Unfortunately it was not as calm as the previous trip. Now, I’m not weak stomached or anything like that. I love roller coasters, driving fast and a various other high speed adventureous activities. However, I do suffer (on occasion) from some motion sickness. The road to the redwoods in CA – yeah, not a good road for me to ride on. Same with the road to Hana — I can drive it with no problems, riding on the other hand….ugh.
The ferry to Lanai when we went this summer – that was rough. Just thinking about it makes my face feel all hot. I always imagine that I look like one of the cartoon characters where their faces get all pudged up and turns green ~~ yep that’s me. It was like riding a water ride at Disneyland, except it lasted about an hour. The Disneyland ride lasts all of what – 4 minutes? Yeah, I’m good for 4 minutes. 40 minutes is a whole different story!
Today’s ride out — not a great experience. It was quite choppy. The boat would slap down on the water with a bone jarring thump while tipping from side to side. As long as I kept my eyes on the horizon I was fine – but you know when you drop all of a sudden from what feels like 10 or more feet, you have to look at what’s going on. I’ve discovered that is always a mistake!
The trip itself was cool. Swam off the boat, saw some whales including several breeches and just generally enjoyed the day. Then it was time for the ride back. I chose to sit in the pocket seat up in the front, and even though it was at times so rough I felt like I should have one hand thrown behind me like a bull rider, yelling Yea Haw, it was still much better.
So all in all it was a good day, a little up, a little down, and a little green around the edges, but not bad.
Question for the day:
Motion sickness or no idea what I’m talking about?

i get motion sickness too….i feel for ya sweetie!!!!!
Motion sickness, big time!
When I was a kid in the car with my parents, it was a sure bet that despite my coping tactics, sooner or later I would lose it. To this day, I can’t read in the car. Sometimes even looking at a map will set me off!
One morning before I went perch fishing I ate a bowl of Life cereal…
Anyhoo, fast forward about 4 hours and I was leaning over the side of the boat puking my ‘life’ out.
Twas gross.
My girls get motion sickness too. Partly cause their Daddy drives like a deranged madman though.
that does sound like it was choppy! I bet it was neat to see the whales.I love going out on the boat.I hardly ever get sick unless it really rough.
I have problems with it sometimes but most of the time I’m okay.
I wish I had a boat! Maybe when I get the surgery paid for.
:sicky: oh, YOU have no idea how MUCH I know what you are talking about…..I have vertigo SEVERAL times a year, and have to take meds to fly….even up UP in altitude while driving in a car sets me off….I have to start meds (meclazine) 2 days before travel and drink TONS and TONS of water days before, as well….oh, yes….just reading your entry made me a little :sicky:….I hate that I am like that, but it’s just me! I couldn’t ride the fun stuff ever at the amusement park, either….I have gone to the ER for this stuff it got THAT bad….I have had tests….it’s just crazy…..I can travel now, since I know how to prepare….but I just don’t think I am brave enough to take on a boat….I can do a ferry if I am on my meds and hydrated, tho…so may I will take a cruise SOMEDAY….
I love your little Emoticons!
I don’t have it too bad except on a couple of these Mt Roads and when we took the ferry from BC (Can) to Washington. Ugh that was HORRIBLE. Glad you were able to at least get some swimming in and see some whales. Have a great Tuesday
I so know what you are talking about, I bought one of those pairs of wrist bands that pushed on a presure point and it actually does work to keep you from being motion sick, I use it on planes all the time since the Dramamine makes me sleepy and I just can’t stand to have 5.5 hrs of quiet and not be able to read!….LOL
By the way, if you think the ferry ride to Lanai was rough, you should try the ferry ride to Molokai….2.5 hours of pure hell!….We fell in love with Molokai, but there is no way in hell I am ever doing that ferry ride again….so we have decided the next time we want to stay a few days in Molokai we will fly, at least it will be short and sweet!
Only on spin-n-puke rides at amusement parks. Otherwise, I can cope well with motion. :big-smile:
No Problems with motion sickness. Getting slammed like that in a boat always messes up my neck though.
I only get motion sick like you do, in prolonged motion events with lots up up and down. Also, I get sick riding backwards in a car. Fortunately, don’t have to do that often and I was born WAAY before carseats came about.
RYC: Oh wow you were that close and didn’t get to see them? I would have been sick! I have checked their tour dates and can’t get them to come anywhere close to me lately! Oh well, 2007 is a year for miracles, right?
Have a great night!
I get it any time dh is driving. It’s not that he’s that bad a driver, I guess it’s just not being in control, I also get it if I have to sit in the back seat. Not so much on boats, but I’ve never been in terribly choppy water either. Anywhoo, its cold here, ice on the roads, very yucky. No chance I’ll be in a boat anytime soon :so-sad:
I do pretty well most of the time, but have encountered motion sickness from time to time. What you’re talking about would scare the life out of me though….
However, I would almost think seeing whales would redeem the awful choppy waters you had to go through to get there. That is awesome!
I’m jealous….I love boats especially fast ones! I havent been on one in forever though. I never got sick on a boat. Actually I find it relaxing, like soothing, but I occassionally do get motion sickness in the car : (
Definite motion sickness. I don’t get them at all, usually I’m with someone else that has them and I try to stay a few feet from them. Unless I’m holding their hair back. lol I have never been on a boat that sways like that. Makes me so fearful of falling head first into the water. I was on a cruise ship that swayed a bit one day and you can bet I ran back to my cabin to get my life vest on!
I have only had motion sickness when I was pregnant. I was driving in the back of the car for two hours. There and back, at the end of the trip, I got sick. Other then that nope. I am the one reading in the car to my girlfriend while she drives, hehe.
I haven’t had motion sickness, but then I have never been in a boat in really choppy waters for an extended period of time…one never knows what might happen then. I would love to see the whales, that would be such an awesome sight. Alicia and Mike gave us the use of their condo for a week as a wedding gift, but the cost of the flights is a big hurdle. Maybe, someday………
