  • Success!

First day of public school went well. She had no problem with any of her classes.  Matter of fact her Math teacher is suggesting she move to the  Advanced Math class. (he he he he). Course Squirt scared the crap out of me.

Yesterday talking about starting school she mentioned she was nervous. Being the mom, I took this as my cue to help her prepare. I asked the standard Psych question “What’s the worst that could happen?” Thinking she would talk about missing class, getting lost or not making any friends — the usually teen fears. Nope.

“Somebody could beat the crap out of me….JUST Because.”  — I laughed and told her that was highly unlikely!

I dropped her off this morning and watched as she determinedly walked up the path, shoulders back, back straight, chin up, never looking back. (At this point I admit I shed a tear or two for my courageous daughter and seeing my baby march off to face public school).

We planned where I would pick her up and I showed up at the appointed time.  10 minutes after school gets out, I start getting concerned. I call her cell, but it’s still off. 15 minutes since school got out, most the kids are gone, Squirt is no where to be seen. I call her cell again, nope still off. 18 minutes…call again, nope. Getting worried now…. I start thinking… OMG — someone did beat her up, that’s why she’s not here! 23 after, I’ve called her cell several more times. I try Silver_Fangz, maybe she’s heard from her. She answers and I ask “Have you heard from your sister? She didn’t show up after school.”

Silver_Fangz … uh yeah, she’s right here with me!
Me: WHAT!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I”M GOING TO KILL HER! SHE ALMOST GAVE ME HEART FAILURE!!!!
Squirt: I’m sorry! I forgot you were going to pick me up, I rode the bus. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! (repeat ad nauseam)
    Me: Grrrrrr…………………

But it all worked out and she had a good day. Hooray! Tomorrow is Halloween — I never put our decorations…(bad mom).  Everybody have a great Halloween!l

  • Oh I’m glad she had a good day!! Even though you nearly had a :heartbeat: attack!! Happy Halloween to you too! I only got about 3 decorations out. I’m pretty bad too *blush*

  • Aaww… bet you’re real proud of her!  Couldn’t have been easy for her to walk into those doors… but she did it!:goodjob:

    Happy Halloween!

  • that would definitely have scared me too! Glad all went well though.

I didn’t do any decorations either, not so much as a pumpkin, heck I haven’t even bought any candy yet, Well there is a good reason for that! If I bring in ANY candy it will get found and there will be no candy for the little ghosts and goblins that come to my door. So I have to run out sometime today and load up on the candy.

  • don’t cha hate when they scare you like that???

    have a great halloween sweetie!

  • Trey thinks kids get “stuffed into lockers” everyday at public school    I told him I went to public school for 12 years and was never once “stuffed into a locker”    I’m glad she had a good day and didn’t get beat up or stuffed into a locker!    :goodjob:

  • LOL!  Hard to be mad when the siblings bond, though; isn’t it?  Glad all else went well.  Public school is scary.

  • I have two sons, the youngest in private school and the oldest in public school.  It is totally a different world, but my oldest has never had a problem.  In fact, I have begged him to let me put him in private school but he won’t go!  Of course, he does not want to leave his band.  He has worked too hard to get those quint drums.  I can’t say I blame him, either.

    Have a happy Halloween!

  • So glad it went well for her!

  • Yay.  I knew she would do great.  And I knew you would be brave too mom.  LOL.  I would have killed her.  J/K.  She was just so excited about having a good day that she forgot.  I would have been freaked though and thought the same.  Great someone beat the crap out of her.  Glad that didn’t happen.  Happy Halloween.  I know I have asked this before, I think, but what time is it in Hawaii?  It is 8:25 here.

  • Good for Squirt!…and how is Mom holding up now that you have the house all to yourself?

  •   I’ve had days like that with my munchkin.  That 10K sounds hard.  Even in my good running days I would never have attempted that.  Jumping a creek was enough…LOL

RYC:  Thanks for commenting on my scary story.  I’m glad that you dropped by and sorry it has taken me so long to reply.  Like your daughter, I’ve been constantly battling some very resistant virus for two months.  No fun.  I would never have made it through that maze of a Haunted House either.  I once was dragged through a five story one by my sister.  I swear she hated me some days.  LOL

    HUGS!!!

  • Came by way of Sunnycaligurl.   That’s so funny!  Your daughter has a great sense of humor!  Glad her first day of public school was a success.

  • RYC – I’m not actually Catholic! Sorry! My school is St. Mary-of-the-Woods, started by Mother Theodore Guerin in the 1800s (now a saint, but I’m not sure the appropriate full name). It’s not actually affiliated with the Catholic Church anymore, but the nuns still live right next to the campus and there are required theology classes, usually from a Catholic perspective. Which is why I’m reading the Catholic Study Bible.  Sorry to disappoint you, I haven’t even been to church out here so I don’t know what to tell you about that.  I’m sure if you google it, you’ll find many to visit, though.

Just curious, what makes you want to move from HAWAII to NEW MEXICO???  We moved here from Ohio in April and it has been a shock for me. I am slowly learning to like it, but I miss the green of the Midwest and having trees that I didn’t have to plant.

Am I correct in assuming you homeschool your kids up to a certain point grade and then send them to public school? I went to public school and had very few problems, no serious ones. Of course it was a rural public school. My sister has six children and homeschools all of them (the schoolage ones anyway, the youngest is only 7 months old).

  • I’m glad things went well for her. I hope that will bode well for the rest of the year for her, AND for you!

    Have a delightful Halloween!

  • glad to hear she had a great day and im sure she will have a great time all year through and hope she doesnt scare ya like that again lol! Hope the kids had a blast for Halloween take care,

  • Man, kids.  I hate it when they scare me like that!  At least she wasn’t nervous riding the bus.  Hope you had a great halloween.

  • I’m glad her day went well, but grit my teeth at how she worried you.  Let’s hope she apologized and made up for it with a back massage, foot massage, etc.,

I got out a halloween decorations this year, but have had those years when I didn’t get it together.  They happen.  Don’t be too hard on yourself.

I would also like to hear how you spent your day now that you have it all to yourself. (or do you?)  I hope you did something nice for yourself.

  • It sounds like your daughter is very mature.  Good for her for walking in with strength and pride.  Sounds like you raised her to be confident woman.
