  • Sitting around watching Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back on Laserdisc. So glad that we got a new laserdisc player! It’s so nice to watch all of our old movies.

Back in the early 90′s we were stationed in Germany. The big thing at the time was to buy electronics over there because they were much cheaper. In addition to that I ended up working in the stereo department at the BX  oops… PX. (we were stationed on an Army Post rather than an Air Force Base – therefore…P not B). I got to know all the vendors from JVC, Bose, Pioneer,  Teac, Hitatchi etc. They let me know what was good and what was not. Very handy friend to have! When stuff went on sale, I called hubby and he rushed over and got it.  We were young, no kids, had little debt and both worked full time, we had money to burn….. God I miss that. That’s how we ended up with our Klipsh Chorus speakers. We had (still have somewhere) a DBX amp and pre-amp, and top of the line everything.

Most of it has been replaced, the laserdisc being the latest to move on to the electronic graveyard and need replacement. If we didn’t have so many laserdiscs, we won’t have bothered. I lucked out and found a used one in a Bookman’s in Tucson for only $30.00. Course we have to add in the cost of the new suitcase to carry it back in — another $30.00 for that (that was fun — a whole exciting packing adventure — whoo hoo).

But, got it back and lo and behold — it works and we have movies!!! Hooray! I think I’ll go make some popcorn to go with my movie.

    Question of the day:

What electronic device would you miss most if you couldn’t replace it when it died??

  • Hmmm, tough one.  Naturally, my computer, but also my Palm Pilot, although I am not sure if those really qualify.  Quite honestly, I could live without tv, dvd player, vcr, mp3 player, and stereo.  But NOT without my ‘puter or Palm Pilot.  I would be a totally disorganized mess without those!

  • I really don’t know. I know I could get all my music in another format, but I still have a ton of LPs. In fact, we put together a great display of album cover art for the display cases in our library. It has gotten a lot of attention. We lost a lot of great art in that transition. I suppose the thing that I just absolutely take for granted now is the microwave.

We are running into problems now with things like reel to reel tapes and old films that require those machines. There is an interview with my great grandmother on reel to reel and my mother is trying to find someone to covert it to some other format. I hope we can at least get it transcribed if nothing else. Lots of history being lost that way.

  • hands down, my computer. I google so many things a day, I should get frequent flyer miles. It has opened up the world for me. Thanks for stopping by :)

  • My computer hands down. I talk to so many people on here. Family and friends.

  • Answers to first and last post…music…ALL KINDS.  Same kind of eclectic musical nut too…and SO jealous of the concerts you’ve been to!!!!!  Went to a Simon and Garfunkel one last year…so awesome…but Floyd?  That had to ROCK.  Only music I don’t like is gangster rap…and yeah, I think that’s it.  Electronic device: 3 years ago, I would never have said my cell phone…but yeah, I’m an addict…originally got it for emergency purposes…now I’m one of those people you see driving and talking…bad, bad.  And my Ipod.  :coolman:

  • I am electronic dependant-a sad commentary of who I am today.

Everything I do plugs in somewhere and since I have an electrician for a husband I am completely spoiled in this area. I have too many things I live with that would just throw me to be without.  My latest electronic love is a room in our basement with an 8 foot screen and rear projection.  However it is operated by several little remotes that control several other electronic devices…I am so so electronic dependant…I even have a generator if the unthinkable happens-a power outage…

    Isn’t that pathetic?

  • Lol, I’ve never heard of laser disc! I couldnt live without something to play music. Doesnt really matter what though.
