I love Rock-n-Roll
Thinking about music from last weekend. I was remembering my concert history. I went to my first concert when I was 12. I went with my sister, her best friend, and my best friend. We saw three bands: Mahogany Rush, April Wine, and Boston. It was a great concert and the first in a long line of musical experiences.
I have been to a variety of types of concerts: stadiums, outdoor arenas, small stages, private shows etc. I’ve enjoyed them all. I can’t remember a concert I haven’t enjoyed.
I’ve seen lots of Metal bands (big headbanger as a teen and young adult), I’ve seen classic rock bands (although they weren’t considered that at the time), and blues, jazz, and hawaiian music.
People like James Taylor, Eric Claypton (my all time favorite guitarist) and Joe Walsh. Groups like Rush, Queensryce, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd (3x now, including once in Germany), Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson can rock a flute! Always inspired my flute playing), and Santana and Hapa. We also enjoy Renaissance music and have some CD’s picked up after Ren Faire shows. I’ve also been to classical concerts, choirs, and broadway musical type shows. Heck I’ve even seen Liberace play (with my mom!).
The bottom line is — we LOVE music. All music — yes even some County & Western. As a teenager I was, like previously stated, a headbanger. I loved bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush, AC/DC etc., etc., etc. I was very narrow minded about it. I wouldn’t listen to other types of music if I could help it. I would turn the radio off and listen to nothing rather than be poisoned by that garbage. Then it happened.
I met my hubby and we began dating. He was a music lover in the true sense. His music collection was very extensive and included jazz, blues, rock and contemporary stuff. He opened my ears — and the rest, as they say, is just beautiful musical history.
So now, I listen to all of the above and have added Christian ( I love bands like Jars of Clay, Switchfoot, Reliant K, Underoath), alternative, Hawaiian, some reggae, and now.. emo.
What can I say? I love it all!! Well –except screamer rock, can’t handle that, it hurts my ears — although I feel like my father when I say that, especially when I add “Nobody can understand a word he’s singing, its just a bunch of screaming noise”. YIKES!! Shades of middle age —
So question for the day:
Favorite type of music and favorite band/ musician?

My kids would gladly tell you that I am a very big square when it comes to music…my radio in the car stays on K-Earth, which is an oldies station, I love music from the 50′s, 60′s and even the 70′s….today’s music sounds desonate to me, as if they just can’t carry a tune…and YES, I know I soulnd like my parents…YIKES!
RYC: Yes, HE is awsome.
RYC: The turkey mounts are the tail feathers, beard and feet of the turkey mounted on a wooden plaque by a taxidermist. They are trophies from when my husband took our son on his first wild turky hunt.
:wave:WOW ………I was a big fan of many of those…Jethro Tull was great and I seen his show several times, Boston was great and I also had a 1972 Chevelle SS 454 show car that was painted all up with the Eagles Hotel California on it and it took first clace in its first and last car show. I too listen to a lot of variety of music and also I like you cannot tolerate screaming bands……thanks for dropping by have a great TGIF:wave::sunny:
I’m sorry, I can’t stand headbanger music. I used to try in school, because my friends liked it. I always loved the Eagles and Journey. Christian music, my all-time favorite was Keith Green. He died when I was 15 in a plane crash, but I still listen to him once in a while.
oh gosh-this post brings back memories….
faves today: 3rd Day, Jars of Clay, DC Talk, yeah-the older contemporary ones..
my younger years I loved E.L.O., Boston, Kansas, Genesis (Phil Collins was the singer in this group) Steve Miller, oh too many groups I liked hard rock…
I also liked James Taylor and still do, Beach Boys, Moody Blues, for the soft rock..
Like you, I can’t stand the hard rock of today, I’m a middle age frunp!
Favorite music now is Christian. I like Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, Aaron Shust, some of the older ones like Michael W. Smith and Petra. When I was in high school and college, I listened to Queen, Pink Floyd, Styx, Genesis, Chicago, and others. In grad school, I took a liking to Bonnie Raitt, and then later developed an interest in some jazz…Spyro Gyra, Enya. But in general, I don’t like country music, do like 80′s music, and LOVE contemporary Christian music.
I can’t name a favorite. Thats way too hard to do. Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Boston, ELO, the Bee Gees, The Eagles, Renaissance, Rob Thomas, Nickleback, Metallica, Evanessance, Enya, Loreena Mckennit, Garth Brooks, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Nicole Mullen, Nichole Nordeman, DC Talk, Rich Mullins…these are all the ones that I have made cd’s of and listen to on my mp3 player.
So far I’ve seen, Pink Floyd, Boston, The Bee Gee’s, Amy grant, Nicole Mullin, and Michael W. Smith in concert.
i love everyone you mentioned….even though i am a generation younger than that music…..i really like alot of different things, but i would have to say anything that has a good beat and i can sing to i love
my fave band of all time has been metallica for as long as i can remember, but i like soooo much more
ps…thanks for the sweet comment
Wow, another Queensryche fan! I saw them several years ago in an awesome concert and really enjoyed them. In my past I have also enjoyed the head bangers  and the rockers and the soft rockers. Some of my best concert memories are from James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, The Allman Bros., Santana, and yes, Neil Diamond! I listen to mostly southern rock now, oldies from the late 60′s, 70′s and 80′s and some Christian artists, Jars of Clay and Michael W. Smith. Eric Clapton is touring this fall and my hubby really wants to go but I’m not sure we will be able to fit it into the schedule. I hate when the concert I want to see is during the middle of the work week and I have to be practical!
RYC: You are correct on the quote. It was Mark Twain and you were the only one!
What can I say, I’m a child of the 60′s and listened to all the 60′s bands…….ran away from disco and started listening to outlaw country in the 70′s …you know, Waylon and Willie and the boys….still listen to country, bagpipes, Indian flute, still like the Stones and the Beatles, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Buffet, Eagles, etc.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment
haha i’m the only one on here who likes EMO AND SCREAMO. i’m going to be a typical teenager and proud of it. wait – i’m using weird terminoligy. screamo = the loud, headbanger, barely-intelligable-screaming-vocals, and crazy background type crap. yeah. i like it. [in your face] hahaha. and emo = emocore music, a mix of screamo and soft rock with wrtitten-to-make-you-cry lyrics and saddish vocals. AND THEY ROCK. so yeah, i’m the rebel on your page
but that’s why ya love me.
I can never remember all the bands I’ve seen, although I did see Boston at the Concord Pavillion, from backstage, no less!
