Alright, this is a challenge from DoWhaChaDo89:
Interesting questions about nicknames….. hmm…. More revealing than I might have thought! Yikes!
Question #1:
I wonder what nicknames you all have or gave to other people… how and why did you pick their nickname or get your nickname?
Hmmm… ok first things first. I’ve had tons of nicknames in my time, not all of them good. For example, my high school English teacher (whom I loved and inspired me) called me “The Parking Lot Queen” – not good. In addition, my band mates named me “baby” for Baby Freak (but my sister already had that one). Again…. Not good. Obviously I spent too much time in the parking lot, and not enough pursuing other more beneficial attributes. Other childhood nicknames were – Baby smurf (getting the idea I’m a little on the short side?), Modie (because I was moody), and sunshine from my dad – because I used to get up every morning to watch the sun rise. Now I have the nicknames of A squared (my friend and I have the same name), and most frequently, Trouble. Hmmmm……. Guess I haven’t left all my troubled past behind.
Nicknames I gave to others: this is more difficult: I nicknamed my youngest dd: Squirt (again the small issue) and my oldest dd somehow ended up being called Pumpkin. In addition, I call my husband “hubby” (self-explanatory) and my friend Zingy, which is version of her last name. My father is called “poppers” – always has been it seems like. And both my daughters also get called “mejia or mejita” – as I was called growing up, this, of course, speaks of our Spanish heritage.
Now my daughter… she has true skills in giving nicknames…. And making them stick! She named her little sister “bug” and it stuck for about 3 years, and at times even her father and I and the grandparents have called her by that name! She has also given nicknames to all her friends. She is the nickname queen.
Question #2:
Proverbs 22:1 says “A good name is more desired than great riches.” Do you think that God has a special nickname for you… what would it be?
I think God’s nickname for me would be “my beloved rebel child” because even though I try, my rebellious nature sometimes gets the best of me. I continue to come back to the path….. but I often stray in rebellion. Even though I stray, I am still his child…. Always.
In addition to this challenge, the Kween_of_the_Queens has issued another challenge to take place on the 13th and 14th. The challenge is:

my dad called me tootie poops, my stepdad calls me J, my hubby calls me Pooh Bear, and most people just call me Jess
I give people nick names all the time. My family calls me Lo, because my real name is Laurie. When I was little I was called stumble bumb, gabby haze, and little miss muffit.
My dad has always called me Foofie. I love that nickname. I call myself Dee or D and hubby calls me missy. Gpa used to call me that too. I call him Lalo, Eddie, Jackass(LOL). We call our son, bubba, rooney, bubbs. I call my mom Ziny(a variation of her name) Mom thinks god’s nickname for me would be “Charity”
Have a good one
Wow… you know I didn’t realize where the talk on nicknames would take people. Some people really have a knack at nicknaming. Your nickname from God is pretty honest… I feel that way too at times!
nice post, it really got me to thinking. I’ve never really gotten any nick-names that ‘stuck’. At one time, many years ago, my mom called me Idget and I have no idea why. I think I was always in her way. I had a grandmother who called me princess and obviously I loved that! Then I later learned she called all my female cousins princess and I learned I wasn’t so special. The same grandma also called me Shipshaw. This is Polish for dirty (stinky) little girl. I would often wet my pants and yeah, I earned this one. Fortunately, no one calls me that now, and it’s been a long time since I have been called princess, so I guess my nickname the last 22 years has been “mom”. It’s my favorite one so far!
This writing challenge from Queen, I think it’s one of the hardest so far. I look forward to reading yours!
I am so not good at giving other people nicknames but I have had a few and some of them I still do. Ok, so my friends older brother named me Skeeter when I was about 13 or 14 cause I had no boobs yet but his sister wore a D! Hey, she was the freak not me : ) As you can imagine I hated it! It really caught on and everyone who knew the guy called me that including my friends parents! Ughh! Some of them still call me that occassionally and I have to remind them that “Hello, I’ve got boobs now thank you very much”!!! To which I usually get the reply “you’ll always be skeeter to us”. Uh, guys, I am gonna be 30 years old! Also, when I was a teenager my friends and I had a whole slew of nicknames we made up for one another, you know, silly ones but we thought it was cool at the time. Other than that I have had a lot of versions of my name, many of which I am stilled called, like Ne-ra and Ne Ne.
Sorry I didn’t get your link up. I will make it up by linking you on my next post!
