  • I was reading one of my teacher magazines and it was discussing the Geek’s Guide to teaching the Modern Age. It was VERY interesting. One thing that came up several times was the use of a professional blog….. hmmmm

Let me get this straight… they WANT me to blog?? HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!

They also suggested being capable of making and playing podcasts, using search engines, email and digital photography. OK, those are no-brainers. Those help me plan, stay connected and make my instructing interesting. But blogging….I’m allllll over that!!

As I thought about it, I could see how helpful that would be. It might look something like this:

    Well we survived another day!!

    May 18, 2006

What an interesting day. Today the class performed a classroom experiment where we examined some cells under a microscope. We practiced making wet mount slides and stains. Aside from one small accident with the open iodine bottle, all went well. We learned that cells are very difficult to see as they are made up mostly of water. Luckily we saved some blood from last week’s playground accident, so tomorrow we get to check that out.

In addition we watched an informative video about the Ancient Romans and all the technological advances they made such as using concrete in building and creation of a mass water transportation system. It’s still a mystery to us why they fell, especially since they were so advanced !

In math we continue to study the use of plots, looking again at box and whisker plots, stem and leaf plots and scatter plots. We will be looking at burial plots next week.

In Language Arts we are continuing our reading of the Phantom Tollbooth. In addition we are working on a poetry unit and are studying Clerihews this week. Look for examples of these in your students work. If you don’t find any, maybe they haven’t been paying attention in class.

    Homework for tonight:

Math: box and whisker plots 25 pages, due tomorrow.

    Spelling: study for test

Reading: read 20 minutes, preferably from a book that has words, not just pictures.

Next week will be moving on with art and working with symmetrical and asymmetrical designs. See if you can find some of these around your home or while your out and about. If so please bring them in, because I need those to finish my decorating scheme for my new house.

Tomorrow is Friday so remember those Library Books!! (The class library fines have reached the point where they are ready to repo the classroom so let’s not add fuel to the fire).

Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire.

What do you think? Would that be helpful, interesting, or even worth the server space??

  • you made my brain ache by reading that.
you must now post something dumbed down and sarcastic so my head will stop hurting!

  • Sorry that I haven’t comment much, I’m just in a rut and don’t want to come off as sounding  like a beaotch! lol I found your blog to be interesting, way to go!!! I went to someones bog that was all about a written version of a bad ‘Dr. Phil’ show. They got hundreds of comments, yes, hundreds!! So, it must be something that people like. (to talk about polotics and theries) I use my Xanga as a diary, talking about anything that comes to mind at that moment, and I get very few comments. Blah!! I use mine as a person theropy session, giggles, something pisses me off, I vent. Something makes me laugh, I share…A Diary!!

Wanna hear something funny? Yesterday was my wedding anniversary and me and Chris, both, forgot!!  rotfl  That is so sad, huh? I think that I will call Chris today and tease him for awhile!! giggles

  • Gabe gives his two cents quite freely *lol*

  • Very interesting. It might be nice if parents had access and could hear from the teacher’s what happened for the day.

I appreciate your comments regarding my new xanga look. Especially for today’s entry… I kinda thought it was an interesting new way to enter for the day. Maybe I’ll make it a new thing. I haven’t heard anyone else’s prospective; but who cares. I liked it because it gave the negative and  positive.

I think the new artstuff may have to be a set thing, too.

    Have a nice weekend.
