  • Ho Hum

Well the Rockies lost in 4 game sweep. Bummer. I was really rooting for the Rockies. I like the Red Sox, but hey the Rockies are in my neck of the woods and used (maybe still do) spring train in Tucson, so we were all Rockies fans there.

On top of that I worked  all week end on Ducky’s costume – I think it’s going to be awesome. For those familiar with the Rocky Horror Picture Show she is going as Columbia. I’m not a sewing person, basically I have the machine for hemming pants and making pillow covers, basic stuff like that. I took sewing in High School, and my mom was quite a good seamstress – she made many of our clothes when we were smaller – but me, I’m just not creative in that way. Having said that, I think the work I’m doing is turning out great! I’ll snap a picture of it when we get all done.

Squirt is going as the Cheshire Cat – I can’t wait to put that together! It’s going to look great! That one is easy though — but what fun!

There will be a protected posting later. Fun stuff.

We went to a great greek restaurant this weekend – it was soooo good! Yum! I didn’t even try my favorites as they had some specials that sounded so good we decided to try those – Pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon in a brandy and mushroom sauce, with shallots and potato wedges served on sauted spinach, hubby got the kobe beef special and it was just as delicious. Definitely a “date” night restaurant though. Then we went to see Gone Baby Gone a new film directed by Ben Affleck and starring Casey Affleck – and here I have to admit that I love the Afflecks and their close friend Matt Damon. Something about their accent I think. Yum. Anyways the movie was excellent, albeit very deserving of the R rating. The ending was very disappointing though. I’m a happy ending kind of girl. It was a good ending, but I could have been happier! If you’ve seen it let me know what you think.  I wanted to see Good Luck Chuck, even though it got panned by the critics - I love Dane Cook and Jessica Alba has been a Fav since Dark Angel days. Maybe it will show up at that dollar theaters – that would be great!

Alright, off to grab a breakfast, shower and then get busy with the sewing! I already got my workout out of the way – one thing checked off the TO DO list! Hooray!

    Question of the Day:

What was the most involved costume you’ve created?

  • I have a sewing machine that see’s the light of day maybe once every decade :ROTFL:  so I don’t Make costumes, I buy them.

That dinner sounds wonderful, now I’m all hungry.  :big-smile:  ryc: we just had some work done to the patio around the pool, spiffy it up a little, nothing major.

  • Oh go join, its fun. It can take a bit to figure everything out but you could always ask me if you have questions! :dancingcow:

  • Now I’m hungry! :wink-wink:

A few years ago my mom found a full length white fake fur at a Goodwill store. My daughter, my son and I have all used it to dress up as Cruella DeVille. We do it with black clothes underneath, a black and white wig, a long cigarette holder, red gloves and big fake jewels, and we’ve all gotten lots of comments when we wear it.

  • I LOVE Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!

As for costumes, I’ve never really dressed up that much myself.  I usually picked the boys up something at Wal-Mart.  Jeffrey always wanted to be a power ranger.  Jordan has been everything from a power ranger to the grim reaper.  This year he is a ninja.  I’m so not crafty!!!

  • I have been craving a gyro for 8 days. (no joke) I would have gotten one of the damned things already if I hadn’t been eating a lot of crap this week. when I do better resisiting the chocolate I will grab me a gyro and life will be good.

  • “Well I was walking down the street just having a think/when a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink.  He tooka me up.  He took me by surprise.  Had a pickup truck and the Devil’s eyes…”  Can’t wait to see the pix!  Ex DH and I were Frankenfurter and Magenta one year.  Frankenfurter’s costume took a lot of time and multiple trips to the Goodwill store for supplies.  Platform sandals in a size 10 were hard to find in the mid 80′s.

  • I went white face as a mime….

  • I have made a full length black wrap for like a dracula

once and a star trek type wrap around and some others……..

I cant wait to see the pictures and I find it difficult and

hard to believe at so young he has had to go through so much…..

  • I’ve never created my own costume though once i made a pair of pants and a pillow. i also made a bandana for the dog. it lasted a few seconds. my mom made all my costumes.
the restrautn sounds great. we have a little greek restraunt here that occationally we’ll frequent. i always get the same thing… beef mancotti. there are other things i want to try but i never get the chance it floats out of my mouth too quickly.

  • oh and i’ve never been to russia. there’s a tour going there in a book myf riend and i have been looking at. still i can’t go. too expensive. but there’s a russian river cruise i’d love to go on.

  • Can’t wait to see pictures of the costumes!  I’m not a sewing person, either.  I think the most involved costune was a tie btween the cat in the hat, and a flower (carrying a watering can instead of a trick-or treat bag.  the cat costumes had quite a lot of sewing, not to mention construction of the hat, and the flower costume was more of a crafty thing.  Citting out the bottom of a round laundry basket for the “pot”, tying on green yarn suspenders decorated with leaves, and the headband ringed with pipe cleaner flower petals – whew!

Otherwise, lots of costumes were based on what I had around the house.  One butterfly costume was made entirely from grocery bags!  And dance recital costumes were always a good starting point.

  • i HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OF THE MOVIES YET. pROBABLY WON’T TILL dvd.

I once made a costume out of a giant box. I was Frosted Flakes, it was cool.

  • Good job on the costumes.  You’ve got more ambition than me.  I really wouldn’t know where to start to sew something other than a hem or button.

Well, there’s always next year for the Rockies.

  • Love Rocky Horror! Took a very conservative friend to see a stage version and I thought she would freak…but she loved it! A good play is a good play! Columbia should be very very cool, and the Cheshire cat will be cute too.

I’d have to say my most creative costume was NOT elaborate…I had white face make-up, white t-shirt, long white gloves, and wore a trash bag…White Trash of course! Not too many got it however. Now my mother made a fabulous dinosaur costume for my nephew a few years back. It was a stegasaurous (sp?) complete with the stand up plates down the back and the tail. It was SO cute! The tail was stuffed with batting, but it rained that year and that tail just soaked up the water. By the end of the night, the boy’s tail was literally dragging! LOL!
