Well, it’s official
I don’t know how. I don’t know why. But the people in charge of licenses decreed that Ducky may take the road.
It’s official.
Ducky passed her drivers test and now has her license.
I don’t know whether to be excited, relived, terrified or worried to death. Maybe I’ll just cycle through all those emotions for 10 or 15 minutes each. I’ll look like Jim Carey in the MASK by time I’m done I think. She’s already asked to borrow the car. Yipe. And she wants to take Duckman out on a date when he gets here next week. Double yipe.
Is there anyway to turn back the clock. To make it so that she’s just getting her training wheels off and ride a big girl bike? Back to a time when the only driving she wanted to do involved pushing the stroller? How oh how do we make it stop? And yet…..I’m thinking about those times when I’m out of milk or another dinner essential – and now I can send her instead of dragging my own happy butt up to Smith’s. Of the afternoons where I don’t have to pick up Squirt, ’cause Ducky is on the job.
You know what this means though? That she is growing up. They both are. How did that happen???
You know what it absolutely DOES NOT mean?
That I’m getting anywhere close to the “o” word.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

No, you’re not getting o*d. The kids are.
There are definitely pros and cons to the kids driving. I got into an accident in my Dad’s company car 2 days after I got mine, at 16. But, that’s how I met my husband. He helped me fill out the accident report. Funny, huh?
Have you seen those devices you can buy that are GPS for the car? They also have something that will report how fast she’s been going, and you can check the internet to check on her. I’m sure glad my folks didn’t have that. They would have found out that I was out drving with just my permit when they were gone. I was bad. Oh, and the speeding.
I have one on the road already, and a second one practicing every chance she gets. She should have her license before the holidays. I am terrified, but also relieved that I won’t have to drive her around town anymore.
Welcome to the Parents with Driving Children club… grab some coffee and have a seat. We can bite nails together.
until you reassure me that her car isn’t pointed towards nebraska I will be sitting on my roof rocking back and forth in terror.
h-no:
you weren’t supposed to let her grow up so fast!
i don’t know what the o word is. for some reason the first o work that came into my mind was orgasm but i’m pretty sure that has nothign to do with your kid getting a drivers liscence unless youhaven’t had sex since she’s been around and i wouldn’t think that possible. :blushing:
:not-talking: nope….not a word that begins with “o” is coming out of my mouth either!
(actually, getting to this “phase” of life has TONS of perks)….there, there…you’ll be more joyous about it as the months turn into years and you realize how FREE you are!! :wink-wink: seriously….time to have FUN when you get….. oh! I promised not to say it!
Aaawww… I feel your pain, lol! Kate has had her license 6 months now. We’ve been sharing the van. It’s nice not to have to drive them to school, noce that she can fetch her sis from school. Nice, in general…. She’s had a couple of ‘incidents’. Think my wheels will be permanently out of alignment, lol! And she backed into a stupid truck parked behind our driveway, but no damage. Harder for me to handle was when Thomas, her bf, got his license and a car, a tiny, tiny… minute, actually… Civic! I pray hard when she gets in the car with him…. And, I’ve lectured the boy to no end that he cannot take risks with the most precious passenger he will ever have in his vehicle! The boy got his license on a Wed, and had his first accident the Sunday after. (w/his mom in the car on the way to church, but I think it taught him something….)
my youngest takes his test soon.
Scary isn’t it! :O
You already know how I feel about the driving and old age and kids growing and and and and. It’s scares the heck out of me that he will be driving soon. Just completely scares me. We don’t have to deal with it for a few more months before the permit. Thank goodness
RYC: Oh yipppeeee. Just our luck. LOL. California is trying to change the driving laws to 18 before a kid can get their license. THere is a cut off date and I think he is just before it so will still be able to at 16. Scares me I tell ya.
Took me a minute to figure out what you meant – because of course we are not getting Old, just more mature!
It is wonderful to not have to drive so much yourself, but I found that sometimes I did not take full advantage because my overactive imagination would whisper, “But what if you sent her on an errand and she got into an accident and it WOULD BE ALL YOUR FAULT!” Still, I did not let my fears rule me as much as I know they did a friend of mine, who would drive by the school every morning to check that her daughter had made it to school okay.
Congratulations to Ducky!

I’m just glad that it’s your kid not mine! He talks about it occasionally, but so far, he hasn’t even read the manual I gave him. :whew:
Good for Ducky! Now, meditation for you……….and lots of praying. Remind her, no driving faster than the Guardian Angel can fly…which is the speed limit in ALL cases!
ryc: coco is outside and so is daddy’s chair. he’s also in a fence but so is the chair as well. i think coco will leave the chair alone since he hasn’t been back to it since the incident. daddy gave him a huge bone today hoping that would also help.
I dunno…I have a soon to be 18 year old and she still has not gotten her lisc. I am just not ready!
:so-cool:
AND YOUR NOT O….YOUR NOT O**, you know what I mean!! :hammer:
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!
Good luck to you!!!
I know that can be scarey, when they start to drive. I think I will be fully gray when my son gets his.
Congratulations to Ducky!
