Month: May 2007

  • So it begins

Having done this once or twice or 10 times I knew what to expect. Lots of hard work, sweat and stress.

I was not disappointed. Lucky me.

The packers are great – one thing we’ve learned over the years is “take care of the packers, and they’ll take care of your stuff”. We provide a fridge (or cooler, depending on the situation) full of drinks and lunch. They had three guys and the packed the entire house and the garage in two days, leaving both days by 4:00. Believe me that’s GOOD!

We are currently at a little cottage in Makawao. It’s nice in that the animals get to stay with us. Of course Merry is just fine. Where ever we’re at, if she’s there she’s happy. Doesn’t matter: home, car, vet’s office wherever – as long as we are near she’s happy. Never a peep. Rasha has been freakin’ out a little. When we leave her sight she starts yelping, which is a new and unwanted behavior. Overall all she’s doing just fine though. Pippin on the other hand is one unhappy kitty! He has been FREAKIN’ out!! He spent the majority of last night wandering from room to room in the cottage meowing loudly and repeatedly.  Then to top it off the stupid rooster started crowing at 3:45 am, the dog joined us in a much smaller bed, and Merry tried to destroy all the windows. So while it was nice to be away from the packing stress, we were unable to get away from the moving stress —

Today we took Squirt to her gymnastics class. Only one problem. Her class is on Tuesday. Today is Wednesday.

Can you tell that we are a little out of it?

Tomorrow they load all the stuff into containers and then we get to begin the real fun – cleaning. And cleaning, and cleaning, and cleaning. Then for a break I think we’ll spend this week end cleaning!

  • Walking Pneumonia

So. You may be wondering if I abandoned my xanga.Nope, not exactly. I have pictures from my graduation, which went fabulously. Of course hubby was taking the video and ran out of disc just as they called my name — Murphy strikes again! I was kind of panicked
about making it in time. But in the end it went just fine.

I was sick the week prior, and then did too much work around the house and had a relapse. Then was Mother’s day, then graduation. That meant two days on Oahu, while we were there we did some shopping — got a whole bunch of stuff from my college bookstore, and stuff from the BX. I have some great pics — I’ll post them later.

Upon our return I was feeling poorly again. REALLY poorly. I continued to get more ill. By Friday I had been running a temp for two weeks averaging 100.5. I went to the Dr. and he was kind of enough to diagnose me with walking pneumonia. Fun.  I must admit, I’ve never felt that sick. I was so weak that just getting up to fix lunch wore me out and I had to rest for 20 minutes. Needless to say, I’m way behind my moving schedule! I am finally feeling better, although still weak and still running a temp. Hopefully that we be gone soon. I’m done with my antibiotics, but they will still be working for another 5 days or so ( I got that awesome antibiotic Z-pac). Tomorrow they come to pick up the hold baggage. It’s also hubby’s last day of work. As he said today 7,800 down, 1 to go. Next Tuesday they come for the rest of the stuff. The countdown gets shorter and my time gets more and more precious. So please excuse me if I’m posting irregularly, and not getting to everyone ones site and visiting. I’ll try to keep up, but no guarantees.Right now I’m exhausted, did a lot today, and this is only the second day I’ve been up and around. I’m ready for bed!

I’ll be around to visit everyone tomorrow.

  • Happy Mother’s Day to everyone!

For your Mother’s Day enjoyment I present one of the funniest Mom’s Day videos ever. I love these two guys. They are soooo funny! And I can imagine this scenario really taking place. Enjoy your Mother’s day — and to my mom — I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for me. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like without you in it. Thank you — I LOVE YOU!

Found this in my email box — thought it fit for today so I added it on! Happy mom’s day!

  • Confirmation update

The confirmation was beautiful and tons of fun. The videos came out pretty good, I haven’t had the chance to do any editing so I won’t post any here, but I plan to post at least a few segments — just cause I can! However, I did upload some pictures and now will grant you the rare privilege of viewing them – hahahahahahahaha.

I know it’s been a long time in between entries, I’ve been sick as a dog (am still sick) and have had 3 house showings, the Confirmation, and went through my remaining stack of boxes and cupboards in the garage. Not fun, but someone had to do it and that someone was me. Aren’t I lucky?? Jeesh. I feel so fortunate! Yesterday I had a small relapse (I was real sick Mon – Wednesday) so I spent the day resting. I feel horrible today too. I’m trying to take it easy, drink lots of juice and recuperate so I’ll be back to 100% by Monday so I can fully enjoy my Graduation.

I hope to get around to visit some of you — If not I’m terribly sorry!

The ceremony was gorgeous, the church looked beautiful — full of tropical flowers in reds, oranges and yellows and ferns and native plants. Our church is gorgeous, the altar, the baptismal font and all the rest of the furniture is out of Koa wood -  it’s so gorgeous! The confirmation candidates wear all white and all had leis given to them by their sponsors (used to be called godparent, now sponsor). The Bishop of Honolulu was there along with 5 priests and 2 Deacons. The bishops offical color guard was in attendance – that is the Knights of Columbus. They looked great with their hats and swords!

OK with no more ado here are the photos:

The annointing of the oil – the offical confimation.

The color guard – the Knights of Columbus.

The Bishop with Ducky, Duckman and Pablo the Pancake.

Now just because I’m doing photos here’s a couple more:

Ducky and Duckman taking a romantic moment to watch a sunset.

and her highness, the Queen of cuteness — who took possession of all our belongings during her napping.
  • New Toys

Maybe you remember I wrote about gadget envy awhile ago — probably not, it’s not like it was earth shattering or life-changing or any nonsense like that.

Why bring this up you may query (again, probably not, who queries anymore anyways)?

Well … just look at what I got last night!

    Ain’t she purty??

I’ve never had a video camera before. That’s right – you read it right – NEVER. I’m maybe one of the last hold outs in the US. Everyone I know has a video camera of some sort. They have for many years actually. I’ve thought of getting one. But in the end I always convince myself that I don’t really need it and that I probably wouldn’t  a) use it and  b) look at the footage if I did use it.

So why now? What’s happened that has finally torn down the remaining walls of resistance? Easy – Ducky’s confirmation, Hubby’s retirement from the Air Force, and my Graduation with my Master’s. All of these major life events are taking place far from friends and family and I know some of them (admittedly, not all will care to) will want to watch as we move through these milestones.  So, I researched, made my choice and went shopping! Woot!

Convincing hubby was remarkably easy – I just told him I wanted to buy a set of tires — muhahahahaha. For those who know us, they may remember that in CA I had 4 complete sets – including rims – of tires stacked on my carport. Add the two sets on each of the BMW’s that came to 6 sets of tires! Recently hubby has purchased two complete sets — and mind you, tires for his babies are not discount tires. Especially the racing ones! So — not to hard to convince him that I could buy any camera my little heart desired, but of course I choose wisely, not lavishly (although the new JVC that records right to an internal hard drive — sweet, and the new HD ones — very sweet). I however, did take into account that we are moving in a month and that neither of us will have a job in a month. Something to consider for sure!

    So question of the day:

Do you have a video camera and if so do you use it and what for?

  • OK — so I fell off the face of the Earth for a little while — oops. My life has been fairly boring, not much to write about. I’ve been swamped and don’t expect it to change much in the next month, matter-of-fact I predict it will get even crazier!!!! Since my last entry I had jury duty (ooohhh…. that SUCKED! — I got a parking ticket, the baliff was an a## and I wasted a whole day sitting in a hard pew like bench -ugh), took the dog and both cats to the vet, had 5 house showings (another today) shopped for camcorders and confirmation gifts, and had a going away for a friend (oh yeah, helped her with her pack out too). I’ve got another house showing in a little while, so I’m going to post some of the pics I promised – I have more but have to get my camera back – I left it at my friends condo– at any rate, here’s some pics from our drive around the back side of Hana. oh yeah, pink and blue hair ba-by!

Someone had created this heart of stones, of course Ducky and Duckman felt they had to have a picture in it!

Gorgeous shoreline made of lava rock. When the waves went out, you could hear all those huge stones rolling back into the ocean, only to be pushed back up with the next wave.

I love arches like this, made by the power of the ocean!   This a rushed burnt car we found down in the ravine, we also found this skull — and no – I didn’t touch it, this is exactly how we found it!

OK – I’m off to read and catch up. I hope to get to some of the writing assignments, but let’s face it, I’ll be lucky to blog again in the next week! Don’t give up on me though!
