I’mmmmmm Bacccccckkkkkkk………….
I’ve been hanging out doing not much of anything. Today we went to a Hail and Farewell. I let the kids bring some friends and we ended up with 8 teenagers all told. Some drama ensued and later this evening Silver_Fangz ended up breaking up with 19 yo boyfriend. Mostly it’s about the forever thing. He was planning on moving to NM when we did, was talking about forever plans, how many kids etc. She’s only 15. To top that off he’s not a very motivated boy, although I do like him as a person and he treats her pretty well. Mostly he plays video games and hangs out in his room. I think she just finally realized that is not what she wants for her life. She wants someone who goes out and does things. She wants to be active and enjoying her life. She has plans to travel and see the world and experience it. She can’t do that tied to a game console. They were on the phone at last check, so we’ll see how it turns out.
I miss the ThisIsBullDookie family already. They were so much fun to have around! The girls are so dang adorable. And so photogenic — I must have taken a zillion pictures of them. They went back to cold country with tans, tons of tacky hawaiian souvenirs, a few bumps and bruises (from surfing, snorkeling, boogie boarding, and the terror of our house, Merry) and some new vocabulary words (teenage vocabulary words — not necessarily an improvement!). We went to the beach just about every day they were here and on the last day we finally wore at least one of the girls out on the “sand beach”. She declared, “I don’t want to play in the sand, I don’t want to play in the water”. In the end she had a great time exploring tide pools. All in all it was a great visit. We had a blast. Played at the beaches all day and then played games and cards all night. They taught us Fluxx and if you haven’t heard of it run out and get it. It’s a blast! We also played poker several times and while I didn’t win I only lost a few buck all together so I call it well worth the price for quality entertainment!
*edit* I was asked what Fluxx was — it’s a card game that starts with one basic rule — Draw 1 Play 1. From there the rules change, the goal that you need to achieve changes, the hands change, nothing stays the same! It’s never the same game twice!!! The more players — the more fun!
There is tons more news… retirement issues, family problems and not to mention Squirt went and got herself a boyfriend (he’s 15 — where oh where did I go wrong?), he’s a friend of Silver_Fangz. <sigh> While she may have a boyfriend she can not “date”. They can do things together with us as a family or with his family, but that’s it. No DATING!! He got her flowers, some jeweled hair clips and a beautiful fire opal ring for Valentine’s. Sweet.
I’m off, my schedule is all screwed up, it’s now 1:37 am and I’m typing here rather than sawing logs next to my hubby. I think it’s time to change that!
Question of the
DAYNight:Favorite Board or Card Game?

Comments (16)
I have two: Parcheesi and Scrabble
I rarely play games anymore. Husby doesn’t care for them, and the big family get-togethers don’t usually play games. I played lots of games when I was growing up. The grownups played cards, and the kids played board games.
Haven’t heard of Fluxx – what is it like?
Oh man I would love to be playing on the sand right now. Because it has been below zero here for three weeks. Oh the drama of teenagers. Were we that bad, lol. Ok yes I was.
I like crazy eight, or the game Sorry.
Haha I’m an UNO freak. We played it every day in high school while I was on the paper staff. I never got over my love for it! I do want to buy the new Harry Potter Scene It game though. I bet I could actually win that one!
Dating and girlfriends. My oldest and his girlfriend talk about marriage and kids all the time and they are both 17. *sigh* They both promise college first though!
Yay for a great visit. Hmmm so maybe Squirt’s BF can go out with SF? At least you let them do stuff with each other. We have friend that won’t let her daughter do anything so she sneaks out. I say you are doing fine. That game looks fun. We usually play Upwords or Fact or Crap. That’s a good one too. Glad you are back.
Sounds like a wonderful visit. It makes me long for warm beaches and sun and it isn’t even that bad here in Alabama!
Boyfriends, my niece is back with hers and I could cheerfully choke her. I think your 15 year old is showing better judgement than my 20 year old. He isn’t a bad kid, just going nowhere and his family has some values we do not share. My sister is really to pull her own hair out I think.
Board Games, I put up a wonderful (if I do say so myself) display about board games in our Library. I have some vintage games like Uncle Wiggily and “Ruff ‘n Ready”, the at home version of Hollywood Squares! Chess, backgammon, Chinese Checkers, Parcheesi, Trivial Pursuit and of course Monopoly. I have the history of the games and some fun facts to know and tell. It is very colorful and getting alot of attention. I’ll have to post some pictures.
I don’t know if I have a favorite game now. I am fond of trivia games and even played the Harry Potter triva game with friends a while back. I wish I could have had Angie (Thefoursome) on my team! I would won for sure!
Glad your back………..great post ………blessings.:big-smile:
Like you, I haven’t been online much so I’m catching up with subs tonight. Thank you for your sweet comments and prayer support for my mom.
I think you must be relieved about the boyfriend breakup and also it appears you have had one of those moments. You know, the moment when you realize something about your kids that never donned on you before. This will help you recognize the guys who will be on the short list and the ones who might go the distance with her. Good thing to know at her young age. Tuck that one away for the future.
It’s good to see you back!
Trey has his first “girlfriend” he asked her on Valentines day. Happy for him, sad for me. I still want to be his “girlfriend”
I love a good game of Rook, a game I learned from my in-laws
Have a great weekend.
My dorky computer geek kid is 17, no gf yet, but has a huge crush on the 23 yo who trims his hair and waxes his uni-brow.
We always liked Uno, and Scrabble.
I love all of the word games, Scrabble, Boggle, Mad Gabs, etc. With my kids, just to get some actual competition when they were little, we played lots of Aggravation. Of course, watching the teens play Twisted Twister is fun, too. They make up body parts that have to hit the colors, like right butt red.
:frog:I like to play Scrabble and Parcheezi. Did you got my previous post? I’ll try this one. -SUBMIT- …Love, Sande
Welcome back!
Trish
Sounds like a wonderful time! I would love to be on the beach right now instead of the cold.Cant wait to see the pictures. The game sounds like fun too i will pick it up. I love scrabble monoply uno. Have a great night
Ohhh, tough question…I’m a game phanatic! My favorite card game is definitely Spades but I dont know if I can pick a favorite board game. I’m loving all the new DVD games too. If I had to I guess I would say Cranium. It’s sooo fun. In fact, we just had a game night with our friends last night. And rather than play a variety of games we played Cranium five times! That was the fellas choice though, lol. We were beating them, bad!, and they kept insisting on a chance to win. Ha, they never got it : )
so glad you all had such a good time together! i’m so happy for you! have a great day
