  • Today is the day….

Big things happening today! First TIBD is arriving late afternoon  — I’m soooo hyped! We’ve been cleaning and getting things ready and I’ve been trying to get my school work done in advance (which is not as in advance as I would like *rats*). We haven’t seen the TIBD family in over 4 years! Yikes! The twins were just babies who had just learned how to sit up right before they left. Of course since Sunday we’ve had severe winds and high wind advisories and rain. Until then, gorgeous every day. No wind, no rain, and sunny skies and warm temps. The winds are supposed to be here through Thursday — Blah!

Also today is the day that Silver_Fangz’s phone goes goodbye. *tear* — ahhh well, she will figure it out. Although I have to give her props — she took her permit test yesterday and passed with flying colors (only missed 2 and one of those because she misread the question). Then she got all her paperwork in and got into Driver’s Ed. at the high school. Those are two good things! Of course something happens to you when your child gets her learning permit. You begin to realize that time didn’t stand still and that in a few short years she’ll be off on her own conquering the world. You look in the mirror and suddenly the gray hair and the wrinkles pop out of the mirror like they are in 3D. Aches and pains are more noticeable and you wonder how on earth this happened in just one day?? Yesterday I was young and ready to go. Today I’m securely middle aged. Humph. The funny part of this is that mentally — I feel like I’m still 20 something. How can such a disconnect be valid?

Sophomore Banquet is Friday. Silver_Fangz is going with Boyfriend. Yesterday was his official BD and we had dinner and cake for him here along with both of their best friends. They all seemed to enjoy it. SF made the cake and took great care to make it just perfect for him. It’s so cute. I like her boyfriend, he’s a nice kid. I have a few problems with him like he’s 19. He’s also unemployed, doesn’t go to school and doesn’t have his drivers license. Besides that, he’s 19. Did I mention that he’s 19? He’s now planning to move to NM this summer when we do.

    Great.

Well like one of my commenters said… parenting isn’t for cowards (and neither is aging)!

Well if I’m going to finish the house and my homework I’d better get going. I’ll be back later to read and comment! Have a great day!

    Question of the day:

Do you feel your age (either mentally or physically)?

  • Anyone for a campout?

    Two more days.

    That’s all. Just two.

Woot. I’m so excited! I’ll have someone here to play poker with! I have friends here, and we have people that we can “hang out” with. They just are a little more sedate, calm and ummmm mature than we like to be. With TIBD I don’t have to worry about any of that stuff!

In other news. Silver_Fangz’s boyfriend had his birthday party last night — yep, now he’s 19. G….R…..E…..A…..T….!!!!!  Now for his birthday he and the group were having a camp out at one of the kids property (well actually, his dad is the grounds keeper for Sammy Hagar’s property here). At any rate, they were going to camp on the grounds, swim etc. The boy’s mom would be home, but inside — so does anyone see a problem here?

Needless to say, we picked up Silver_Fangz late last night and then we drove her back this morning. She doesn’t understand why she couldn’t camp out overnight unsupervised with her 19 year old boyfriend. Ummmmm…let’s think about this for just one sec.

    1…thousand…1….

OK – That’s about all the time it took for me to make that decision. She asked if she would ever be allowed to camp out on the beach with her friends — Answer = resounding NO. Then she got smart…she asked her dad to take her camping with her friends….and who says teenagers never learn?

She has just a few more days to get a job otherwise she loses her phone. We gave her an option at the beginning of the month, either get actively involved in school groups or get a job. We refuse to let her sit around here goofing off on the computer, doing nothing. She’s put in a few apps, but not made any real effort. Maybe the loss of her beloved phone will motivate her!

I’m off to clean and do schoolwork (the fun just never ends around here!)

    Have a great weekend everyone!!!

  • Who you gonna call?

Been spending time at the beach and at the gym. I feel good, my house on the other hand looks like crap. <sigh>.  I just don’t understand where the cleaning fairies disappear to when you really need them. And hey, this is the perfect place for fairies. After all, everything else that flies lives here. Course most of those flying things I just do not want in my house.

This week we had our house treated for fleas. We’ve been battling them for a long time – some of you might remember — I detest these little buggers. At any rate while we have seen a drastic reduction in those evil biting bugs we’ve been unsuccessful in eradicating them. We finally called in the big boys. If the saying “you get what you pay for” is true, then I’m good in the flea (or lack thereof ) department.  So who you gonna call?? Fleabusters!!!

    fleabusters

They put down and electrostatically charged powder that is non toxic and then work it into the carpet. After 2 days you can vacuum. It is guaranteed to kill all fleas for 1 year!!! It even kills new fleas your pet brings in…. Woot!! Only problem, I’m leaving in 4 months. Why didn’t we do this 8 months ago….argh. Of  course this is another situation where I’ve been wanting to call in the pros for some time and hubby keeps wanting to try “one more time on our own”.  If ONLY he would LISTEN!!!  (yeah, uh huh, sure…whateveah) — He did get another “I  ~ told ~ you ~ so…” for that one…. *ahem*. (Thank goodness he has a good sense of humor and a lot of patience).

So this week we are cleaning up the house (some), I am trying to get ahead in school work (sorta) and we are getting organized and ready (kinda) for TIBD (ThisIsBullDookie) to visit with her hubby aka whiner extraordinaire and her adorable little twins M and A. We also have to take Silver_Fangz to get her permit or she can’t start Drivers Ed next week. So, I guess what I’m saying is…. I really don’t have time to be goofing off here and I have to go do something semi productive.

    BTW – I’m in love:

    With having no fleas!!!!

  • Me in a nutshell

A writing challenge for: Kween_of_the_Queens blogring

    ME, IN A NUTSHELL

    The object:

Write a synopsis of YOU!  If you were to go on the internet and decide to look over the dating sites there, what would you put in your profile?

Never mind that most of us are married!  So am I!  But just imagine for a moment that you aren’t, and are looking.  What would you say about yourself?  Your interests?  A description of yourself ?  Would you be brutally honest?  Or playfully vague?  Go ahead and write whatever you want!  There are absolutely no boundaries for this challenge, except that I am requesting that you post a picture (not necessarily of yourself either!)  Make it totally serious, make it side splittingly funny, make it YOUR OWN!

    “If you like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
    If you’re not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you’d like making love at midnight
In the dunes on the Cape
Then I’m the love that you’ve looked for
    Write to me and escape.”

Oh wait – that’s been done before. So…let’s see. If I were to post a personal ad what would it say?

If you like Pepsi and Brownies

and playing board games at night

    If you’re not into Anger

And you brain is not light

If you like hiking and beaches

    And reading a good book

We are made for each other

    Call me for a look….

If you like dancing and laughing

    And you’re not too extreme

    If you can tolerate sarcasm

And like your pie with whipped cream

If you like all kinds of music

And you sing in the car

You’re the one that I married

I know that we will go far.

    Question of the day:

    What makes you happy?

  • A New Quandary

We’ve been cruising along with some very specific ideas of what and when things are going to happen in our lives. Although since we are dealing with the Air Force, we know that none if this is by any means set in stone and could in-fact change at the whim of some higher up that has no idea of what’s going on and doesn’t really care, just wants to shelve that particular set of papers and call it a day.

Some of the ideas we have in our minds:

In June Hubby will retire from the Air Force after 26 years.

Also in June we will move to New Mexico, preferably and most likely Albuquerque.

We have no jobs, no home and no idea of where we are going to live, but that doesn’t bother us.

We will both get jobs, begin saving up his retirement check and after a year find a place we love that has land and buy it.

Sounds pretty good so far right? Hubby will still actually be in the Air Force until September — that is assuming they approve his DEROS extension request (still waiting on that). He will be on terminal leave (using up leave he’s accrued over the year). It’s not a perfect plan, it has lots of uncertainties about it, which to be truthful we both kind of like, after years of having each decision scripted for us — this new way is pretty exciting.

So — what’s the quandary — well… one of the guys from Kirkland AFB (which is in Albq., New Mexico – where we WANT to go) called hubby and wants him to come fill the recently vacated superintendent slot there.  So here’s the pros

1 -They (Air Force) move us to Albq. and provide us with housing upon arrival until we find a place

    2. Immediate employment allows hubby the opportunity to start working on getting his golf teaching certification thingy

    3. Medical, Dental and all the other “bennies” are provided

    4. He only has to give them a year, then he can retire from there

    5. If he retires from there, his mom and sister and my folks can be at the retirement ceremony (and perhaps some good friends from other states — CA, NE hint, hint, nudge, nudge??)

    Cons:

    1. If he get’s a different job and retires, he’ll have that paycheck and his retirement check

    2. He’ll be working for the same program AFRL (that may be a biggie!)

    3. He’ll be in the Air Force still

    4. If he withdraws his retirement papers and they try to “hire” him and fail, we have to start from square one

    5. They may want us sooner than June or later than June…

Damn. I was hoping that would help, but they are balanced out pretty well. OK — advice and opinion time:

    What do you think?

  • And we go up and then down, up and then down

Today we went out on the boat again. Unfortunately it was not as calm as the previous trip. Now, I’m not weak stomached or anything like that. I love roller coasters, driving fast and a various other high speed adventureous activities. However, I do suffer (on occasion) from some motion sickness. The road to the redwoods in CA – yeah, not a good road for me to ride on. Same with the road to Hana — I can drive it with no problems, riding on the other hand….ugh.

The ferry to Lanai when we went this summer – that was rough. Just thinking about it makes my face feel all hot. I always imagine that I look like one of the cartoon characters where their faces get all pudged up and turns green ~~ yep that’s me. It was like riding a water ride at Disneyland, except it lasted about an hour. The Disneyland ride lasts all of what – 4 minutes? Yeah, I’m good for 4 minutes. 40 minutes is a whole different story!

Today’s ride out — not a great experience. It was quite choppy. The boat would slap down on the water with a bone jarring thump while tipping from side to side. As long as I kept my eyes on the horizon I was fine – but you know when you drop all of a sudden from what feels like 10 or more feet, you have to look at what’s going on. I’ve discovered that is always a mistake!

The trip itself was cool. Swam off the boat, saw some whales including several breeches and just generally enjoyed the day. Then it was time for the ride back. I chose to sit in the pocket seat up in the front, and even though it was at times so rough I felt like I should have one hand thrown behind me like a bull rider, yelling Yea Haw, it was still much better.

So all in all it was a good day, a little up, a little down, and a little green around the edges, but not bad.

    Question for the day:

Motion sickness or no idea what I’m talking about?

  • Gadget Envy

I admit it. I have gadget envy. A pretty severe case. I might need some long term treatment, I’m not real sure yet, we’re still evaluating the seriousness of my case.

I love gadgets. All kinds of gadgets – kitchen, household, automotive, electronic and even garage type gadgets, which makes no sense because the garage is like some parallel universe where things ought to make sense, but really don’t.

For the kitchen some of the gadgets I want are KitchenAid Mixer –which does pretty much everything for you, they even have attachments that include a citrus juicer and ice cream maker — that thing is sweet!

     blue kitchen aid

And a bread machine which allows even the most culinary challengesd species (uh..that would be me in case your wondering) to make wonderful home made bread and various other dough related items like dinner rolls and other extremely fattening foods. The stainless steel fridge with the drawer freezer and water/ice combo –better yet the fridge like that that has a tv/radio/dvd player in the door (saw it today at Home Depot) and also has an electronic calender/alarm/notepad function. How cool is that?

     LG Refrgerator

As far as I’m concerned two MUST have gadgets that I’m getting upon arrival to New Mexico are the Roomba and the Scooba. I don’t want to have to vacuum, sweep or mop every again.

    Scooba Roomba

For the car I like CD players that are MP3 compatible, and of course I want a hookup for my iPod. In addition, I want a GPS navigation feature. I probably would never need it, but it’s cool none the less!

For the garage I want those openers that have keyless entry locks along with a dog bath that is step in with a small separate water heater — that just makes good sense!

The electronic gadgets is where I really get excited. There is always new stuff coming out and I love it all! New computers, new video formats, players, recorders, video, audio, cameras — the list goes on and on.  My friend bought her husband a iPod alarm clock — yeah….I need that!

If you’re a gadget lover than you have to stop by the Sharper Image each time you pass it, just to see what kind of cool new crap they have to entice you into new gadget obsession. Of course these obsessions lead to a huge collection of gadgets that never work the way they are supposed to. These end up taking up valuable space in drawers and closets that could be better used to store newer, more functional and fun gadgets. Ahhh…. the conundrum of gadgets.

So are a gadget lover too? If so… what gadget do you want?

  • Psst….. I’ll tell  you a secret.

I have a bad temper.  You know the saying “I’m going to go postal on your a#%! Well I coined another. “You think going postal is bad? What till I go HISPANIC on your ass.” (my apologies if I offended anyone, my daughter was here and refused to let me censor the language…lol) My daughter was present and adamantly insisted I put this on my xanga. Since it fits my day, I thought I would comply.

Needless to say — I am ready to go HISPANIC on someone. Specifically, my daughter’s orthodontist. Without a lot of the boring details let’s just settle with the fact that he is a demeaning, smug, condesending, superior, and flat our rude butt munch. I’m composing a suitable chastising letter, which I plan to forward to the BBB as well. My hubby was shocked that I had held my tongue and not gone off on the jerk.

    Two reasons for this:

First: he didn’t let me get in a word (I’m not kidding every time I opened my mouth and started to say something he started going “no,no,no,no,no,no…that’s not what happened”, without ever hearing a word I TRIED to say.)

Second: I have struggled most of my adult life to get control of my temper – to show discipline and control. I’m not going to let some smug, superior jerk of orthodontist take that away.

You ever been so mad you literally saw red? When I get that mad – I tend to cry. People think I’m upset, but really I’m just totally pissed off. I hate it! I feel weak and people look at me with sympathy and I just want to rip someone’s eyebrows out! As you might have guessed, it was an upsetting day. I’m over it now, but will write that letter! Took the kids to RE did some shopping at Borders Express and the girls and I got some Cold Stone Creamery — That helped!!

Have you ever been that mad?

The Kween_of_the_Queens is getting ready for a new challenge. Please stop by her site to get a advance look at the topic and join us on the 22 and 23 of this month. This looks like a fun one!  Hope you’ll all join in!

  • What’s a few less teeth here and there?

Yesterday I went and had my four back molars removed. Due to some pockets of bone loss and their mobility, it was decided to remove them and save the other teeth. Now I have the same number of teeth as everyone else in my family (they all had theirs removed due to lack of room). It wasn’t so bad. The numbing was the worst part. I hate those shots….they go on for ever! Now when they rocked the tooth back and forth and I could hear and feel the popping of the root — that was disturbing. Ugh.

Afterwards I went to Walmart and Safeway picking up some things for a welcome home party for one of her friends. Hubby was sure I would not be up for that. I keep telling him I have a high tolerance for pain, they just never believe me. Yet another example of my hubby refusing to listen to me! And yes, I did take the opportunity to tell him “I told you I’d be fine! And I am fine – very little pain today.   Mostly it’s just difficult to open my mouth — the muscles are SORE!! And to top that off, I’m sick of soup!

In addition to having my teeth pulled, I had a major allergy attack, and Aunt Flo came to visit. What a good day huh? You would have thought that yesterday was a Wednesday. I wonder what’s in store for me today? Thanks for all the well wishes ~ I hope all who are ill recover so quickly as I did! Honestly – one day of illness is not bad.

I thought it was funny how many of my commenters acknowledged husbands tendencies to not listen — hmm…seems to be a trend. There are studies that show women use like 3x as many words than men. Men claim that this is why men don’t listen to women — because women talk too much! I think that’s a convient excuse to not listen. I personally think that women have so much to say, that’s it’s much more than men can retain. We have to keep it simple — small words, short sentences — in order for men to be able to comprehend.

    Example:
You – food — table — now : translation ” Dinner is ready, come and eat”.

I – Leave – Now. Translation: “I’m going over to __________, I’ll be home later at ______ time. Please make sure the kids make it to….._______________ and _____________. Bye honey I love you!

    What do you think?
