  • Death by Cuteness

I thought I ‘d write a new entry, but all I can think about is a variety of children’s literature and trying to pick one book for grades 3-6 to discuss in my book club tomorrow, or the aspects of my life that make me who I am and what I believe for personal identity assignment. Obviously I am suffering from too much learning.

Since my brain is on major education overload, I thought I’d go with a picture post instead today.

    First:
Kitty update! Ya know you’ve been waitin’ for it! We went with Merry for the name (Merry and Pippin — get it?) and discovered she is indeed a girl. She’s fiesty and totally unafraid of the cat or the dog, matter of fact, I think they are becoming afraid of her….. as we all are due to the rowdiness of her playing (we all have the scratches to prove it!)

OK — we have devoted suitable time to her cuteness. How ’bout some other stuff?

NOVEMBER 2006 TOPIC 1 OF 2 ~ Letters From Home

Write a letter to a soldier serving our country

it can be someone you know… or someone you don’t know

tell them how you feel about their service, this war

    offer them stories from home

    Futures2

I know this is a touchy subject for some (OK for most) but I believe that the soldiers themselves should not be scorned because you disagree with the politics. Add to that the fact that I am an Air Force wife of 20+ years and extremely patriotic, you get why I need to participate in this challenge. I try to keep politics off this blog, for my own personal reasons but I don’t see this as political, I see this as supportive and necessary. So with out anymore soap box lectures here we go.

    Dear American Solider,

I’m a wife, a mother, a teacher and woman. I have been following along behind my military husband for many years and know how difficult it is to play the support role. I also know that your role is much harder and that without the support from friends, family and yes even strangers your job gets more and more difficult. So I want to tell you how much I honor what you are doing with your life. It’s not an easy task, to stand up for something and be willing to lay it all on the line. I know that it can be tough being deployed and that losing friends and seeing the destruction wears on your heart. I know that this letter will not make up for missing those important family events like births, deaths, birthdays, anniversaries and holiday gatherings. However I want you to know that I thank you for your service. That I recognize the sacrifices you make for all of us. Your family and friends miss you and love you.  Each time I Thank God for my many blessings, I include you and the soldiers like you in the list.  My freedom is indispensable, and I am so glad that you are there protecting it.  When you are cold, tired, hurting and lonely, please take some small comfort in the fact that there are people here that are thinking of you, wishing you well and grateful for all you’ve done and continue to do in the service of our country. We are indebted to your courage and bravery, and I’m afraid I will never be able to repay that debt for it’s true value. But as you continue to give of yourself, so shall I and I hope that in some small way I can make your sacrifices a little easier to bear. Thank you again, for all that you do.

    With much love and gratitude,
    azcason

We’ve got some of our small detachment there now. We sent a box back in September full of Halloween candy, cosutme accessories, Thanksgiving decorations etc. A new goes out in the next week with stuff for Christmas. If you are interested in doing something you can visit this site for activities they are arranging: USA_troops_aide.  Also stop by Featured_Grownups to visit the rest of the letters for this topic.

  • More Coffee Please!

Whew. What a week. What????? It’s not over yet………………..aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……………….it BURNS!!!

So Halloween was fun. And busy. And loud. And late. Squirt and I went over to friends house to help her with trick-or-treating and passing out candy. Her hubby is TDY for a month and she has three little ones…5, 4, and 9 months. She needs an extra set of hands. They live in suburbia, a lot like what is depicted in Over the Hedge. To say it was a smorgasbord of candy would be an understatement. Needless to say we brought home way too much candy.

    Meanwhile….back at home…..

Silver_Fangz planned to trick-or-treat with some friends, stay out late, then have the girls sleep over. (They tried to get us to let the boys stay..but ..uh …NO! — she outgrew boy/girl sleepovers at about age 4…). The number of kids kept growing. When I left there was 13 teens hanging out at my house. I ordered pizza, got chips and dip and soda.  The teens stayed until midnight. Poor Hubby, he stayed up and monitored them (I fell asleep, I hadn’t planned on it…I felt SO BAD!!) then got up early the next morning and went to work.

Yesterday about half the teens showed back up and stayed ALL DAY!!! I love my daughter and her friends, but it was tough having that many kids here for two straight days. I needed my home back! And I was quickly running out of food!

We followed that up with a three hour presentation at church of the Living Gospel of John.. very cool.

You can find more about this amazing ministry at Gospel of John Really worth the time if it’s in your area. Amazing.

Well since I was up till the wee hours of the morning doing school work and then got up bright and early this morning, I’m off to get some rest before hitting the books again.

    Question of the day:
    Early bird or Night Owl?
