NOVEMBER 2006 TOPIC 1 OF 2 ~ Letters From Home
Write a letter to a soldier serving our country
it can be someone you know… or someone you don’t know
tell them how you feel about their service, this war
offer them stories from home
I know this is a touchy subject for some (OK for most) but I believe that the soldiers themselves should not be scorned because you disagree with the politics. Add to that the fact that I am an Air Force wife of 20+ years and extremely patriotic, you get why I need to participate in this challenge. I try to keep politics off this blog, for my own personal reasons but I don’t see this as political, I see this as supportive and necessary. So with out anymore soap box lectures here we go.
Dear American Solider,
I’m a wife, a mother, a teacher and woman. I have been following along behind my military husband for many years and know how difficult it is to play the support role. I also know that your role is much harder and that without the support from friends, family and yes even strangers your job gets more and more difficult. So I want to tell you how much I honor what you are doing with your life. It’s not an easy task, to stand up for something and be willing to lay it all on the line. I know that it can be tough being deployed and that losing friends and seeing the destruction wears on your heart. I know that this letter will not make up for missing those important family events like births, deaths, birthdays, anniversaries and holiday gatherings. However I want you to know that I thank you for your service. That I recognize the sacrifices you make for all of us. Your family and friends miss you and love you. Each time I Thank God for my many blessings, I include you and the soldiers like you in the list. My freedom is indispensable, and I am so glad that you are there protecting it. When you are cold, tired, hurting and lonely, please take some small comfort in the fact that there are people here that are thinking of you, wishing you well and grateful for all you’ve done and continue to do in the service of our country. We are indebted to your courage and bravery, and I’m afraid I will never be able to repay that debt for it’s true value. But as you continue to give of yourself, so shall I and I hope that in some small way I can make your sacrifices a little easier to bear. Thank you again, for all that you do.
With much love and gratitude,
azcason
We’ve got some of our small detachment there now. We sent a box back in September full of Halloween candy, cosutme accessories, Thanksgiving decorations etc. A new goes out in the next week with stuff for Christmas. If you are interested in doing something you can visit this site for activities they are arranging: USA_troops_aide. Also stop by Featured_Grownups to visit the rest of the letters for this topic.

Very nicely done. I can hardly see a picture of a soldier in uniform without getting emotional. I grieve for thier families when they are killed and wounded, and I am thankful that they are willing to serve. I do believe they represent us, and protect us, and all who serve currently are to be honored, as well as those past veterans. It is hard to consider this topic without getting political, but I do believe I can support the troops without supporting the policy of the administration.
Dear God Please Bless America and Please Bless Our Troops. Amen.
Wonderful letter! I think you nailed it!

I’m going to have to try my hand at writing a letter. Yours was simply amazing. what a great letter!
Great letter.

Dear Annette,
I’m visiting from the Featured Grownups ring, after having written my own topic entry for the post. I always try to visit and comment on all the entries when I write my own, in order to help the members attain featured content status, which is the purpose of the ring. I like your first line, in which you mention that visitors from the blogring should comment. I run a participatory blogring (The Internet Island) and it always upsets me when people post entries, but don’t visit or comment on other sites. (And I tend to write overblown and super long letter sized comments which people probably find too long to read.)
I noticed that you were a member of a blogring called Air Force Wives before I read your entry, so I wanted to mention that I, as a pacifist, and one who might very well want to get “political” had to think hard and long for three days before I wrote my own “letter”. I only hope I’ve done our fighting men proud with my own effort.
Now, to comment on your letter, which is why I’m here. Support, honor, and thanks. That just about covers it all. Those of us who are not involved in the fight cannot even think about what it must be like to be serving, and support honor and thanks is all we can offer. Thank you for the link to US Troops Aide.

Your letter is wonderful and should be read by are soldiers
have I ever told you that you have a way with words?
consider yourself told.
:p
That letter was absolutley beautiful. I wish that everyone showed that kind of appreciation for our soliders. Many people do not realize that freedom is not free.
Well said, honey – I really like what you wrote. I’m looking forward to getting back into my own blogrings, and so enjoy reading the results of other blogring challenges. My husband has nephews in the UK army and we worry so when the are sent to Iraq or Afganistan, but it must be so much more difficult for the spouses and children of these men and women who lay their lives down for their country.
Thank you for the lovely welcome back and for your comments. Still finding my way round the new layout and get very confused with the public profile changing to the snowy scene when I read folk’s comments!!!
Hugs, Susan <><
