Month: January 2006

  • Leaving church last night we came across an interesting situation. We we following a car who was stopped at a green light in the middle of the intersection. We assumed that were waiting to turn left as that lane was left turn or straight. After waiting a minute a so, they finally went through the intersection straight. We passed them a lit further along and realized there were two girls in the car. Instead of talking to each other… they were both on their cell phones!!! This is not the first time I’ve seen this. I will often see groups of people together and one or more is completely ignoring the others and talking on the cell phone. Even out at dinner.

Why even hang out together if all you want to do is talk to others. It’s like…  hey want to go hang out, but I don’t plan on talking to you, I’m going to ignore you and talk to my other friends on the cell phone.

I personally think that people are under the impression that it’s cool and they look popular because… “Look how many people want to talk to me!”

What do you think about people being on the cell phone while with others or in social settings?

  • Whoo hoo… Words of the Day

So I’ve been working on my assignments for my classes. In one book I came across some words I actually didn’t know the exact meaning to, although I could use the context clues to come close in a guess. I thought I would write them down and look them up….. see kids…. I don’t just tell you to do it, I do it too! I thought I would share them, just because that’s what I do.

So here are your words for the day:

    fun·gi·ble:adj

    1. Law. Returnable or negotiable in kind or by substitution, as a quantity of grain for an equal amount of the same kind of grain.

    2. Interchangeable.

     n.  something that is exchangeable or substitutable. Often used in the plural.

    del-e·te·ri·ous     adj.

Having a harmful effect; injurious: the deleterious effects of smoking.

     in·cul·cate
To impress (something) upon the mind of another by frequent instruction or repetition; instill: inculcating sound principles.

    1. To teach (others) by frequent instruction or repetition; indoctrinate: inculcate the young with a sense of duty.

     Pe·la·gi·an·ism   n.

The theological doctrine propounded by Pelagius, a British monk, and condemned as heresy by the Roman Catholic Church in A.D. 416. It denied original sin and affirmed the ability of humans to be righteous by the exercise of free will.

    hor·ta·to·ry   adj.

Marked by exhortation or strong urging: a hortatory speech.

ok now children…. everyone should try to use these new words today. ::grin::

Have a good weekend! I’m off to shampoo carpets…. whoo hoo… the fun just never stops… don’t know if my heart can take all the excitement!

  • The now and zen of quiet

I used to meditate every morning. It helped me get focused and centered. I wasn’t so scattered and side tracked. As my life got more and more complicated with the addition of children and education I began to skip this morning step.

Now, years later, I think about this and wonder why when things get hectic, I abandoned the things that keep me the most stable and sane.

Yesterday I got up early and had some quiet time, today the same. Although I haven’t gotten as much accomplished as I would like, I feel very calm inside. My mind is clear. Even with looming assignment due dates, massive cleaning about to begin in preparation of visitors, and the day to day bru hah hah that is part of my life, I still feel calm.

I was able to keep the girls on task without getting upset or even tense. I spent time goofing off, and yet finished housework, homework and had a nice long talk with my mom.

It’s amazing what a little peaceful time with yourself with do for you attitude and frame of mind. I know it’s different for everyone… what helps keep you centered and sane?

  • Currently listening to:  Silence

I decided I would start getting up earlier, to have some me time. Being a SAHM home schooling mom, I don’t get much alone time.

Yesterday I was waiting outside RE for Squirt, cleaning out the jeep and reading my assignment. The windows were open and there was a gentle breeze. I love those kind of nights. That’s when I miss my motorcycle most. You know the kind of night, when the lights look especially bright, and the air is sultry and soft against you skin. On those nights I feel like roads go on for ever. That magical things are just right around the corner, waiting for me to discover them. The kind of night that says if you had wings, you surely could fly.

I love those nights. I am so glad I was out last night to enjoy it. Even though I didn’t do anything but clean my jeep and read my assignment. I have it now with me, I hope it lasts.

What kind of night do you enjoy?

  • What fun. Another day spent dealing with the bureaucracy of a major institution. Nothing spells fun like calling a number you were directed to last semester and being told it’s someone else’s department.

Who is someone else?? I’ve noticed that they have a major amount of responsibility. The are in charge of everything.

How have we gotten to this point. It’s always someone else’s department, responsibility or fault. Not just in businesses, but in everything.

It’s not my fault that I burnt my legs by driving with hot coffee squeezed between my knees. It’s their fault for making it hot!

Excuse me… isn’t that what you wanted brainiac? HOT coffee? Have you ever heard anyone order a cup of cold coffee? Or even luke-warm coffee? No of course not. We ask for what we want and then are shocked when they have the audacity to actually give it to us, not to mention if they give it to us the way we actually asked for it. We willing pay for it, then turn around an blame them when we can’t handle it.

Well I’d love to rant more, but have to go get dinner ready. Don’t blame me………………. it’s my family’s fault!!!

  • Ahhhh… another fun day.

Yesterday was mummy day.. in that, I pretended (quite convincingly I humbly admit) that I was a mummy, or comatose, or zombied….. you choose.

Today, we attended the final day of the Mercedes Open. It was a lot of fun. We followed the final four groups around, and hung out with our friends, acting like golfing efficindios and looking like golfing rednecks.

Everyone was in a good mood. The weather was nice… although quite windy, which kept it cool for us (when we weren’t huffing and puffing up the hills), but made it difficult for the golfers.

Appleby had a difficult day… started off 6 under I think… Singh had a great day.. started off 3 under and ended 8 under… Appleby tied it up on the 18th and forced a playoff, which he won when he birdie the 18th. Pretty exciting! If you’re into that stuff. Campbell was in the running until he went OB off the 12th and blew up from there. It wasn’t pretty, but he salvaged with a par on the 18th, to put a decent finish to his day.

Tomorrow first day new classes. I’m tired and sore (from walking the Plantation course which is quite spread out and has noooo flats……. and from doing stage work on sat. early morning) and just about ready for bed. Got get some sleep so my brain is at Masters best…. muwahahahaha………. yeah, right.

Fun, sun and NO kids. What more can you ask for???

  • Mercedes Open Gala

So last night hubby and I went out without the children. On top of that, we had an awesome time, got home at 5:30 am. What on earth could a pair of old folks do out and about till that time???

    Ok so here’s the scoop.

The Mercedes Championship is in town. For those who don’t follow golf, it the first tournament of the season, and officially begins the PGA Tour season. All the big names are here. VJ, Sergio etc., etc.

Every year they have a big gala event. This year they booked:

    Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh!!!

Hubby has been occasionally working for a local staging crew. He helped set up the stage and we got backstage passes!

The show was awesome… it was especially good since we missed the Eagles when they came through. They played about 2 hours. We were right behind the guy who didn’t nothing but take care of Glenn Frey’s guitars….. he had 7 with him, for this “little” show!

Then after the show, we had to wait for the band and light crews to clear the stage, then we broke down the stage and got it ready for transport. There was 2 guys and me and my hubby. We worked our tushies off. We got done and headed out at 4:40 am for home… over an hour away!

The bad part……. hubby had to get up at 7:00 am to take Silver_Fangz to the dentist (she’s had a sore tooth), and go get his flu shot.  So I slept a couple of hours, now it’s his turn.

So, we had a great night, but I’ll pay for it today, and the next couple of days…………. tearing down a stage is A LOT of work!!

So, I got a few pictures, but they aren’t great – no flash, new camera, bad angle….the standard excuses, but I’ll post what I can save later. For now, I’m off to stare dumbly into space.

I’d better take some pain relievers as well.

  • Whew… well I’m registered.. finally. With my illnesses, I haven’t had the energy to deal with this, but I decided to muscle it out, so for the last week been working on that. A lot of the courses were full already so I ended up with:

    Assessment of Exceptional Children

Issues of Peace, Social Justice and Education Reform

    Fun huh??? Ooohhh yeah baby………!!

Ordered my texts off Amazon…. for only an additional $250.00. Isn’t it amazing how much you pay for a college education, and that still doesn’t cover any of the actual class expenses??

Found out I need to take the Praxis exams as well… hooray. So I will have taken the Arizona Proficiency exam, the CBest, and now a third! Hooray! What’s funny…. New Mexico has there own, so I’ll have to take more when I get there!! Ahhh the bennies of being a military wife — at least I know I’m compentent to teach according to 3 different (will be four) states. That should say something….. (maybe that I’m an idiot for going through that rigamorolle in every state we move to). The costs to take the Praxis I & II? About 400 smakeroos…. nice huh?? They get you coming and going. No way out. Good thing that teaching is so lucrative…. ooops… wait… that’s lap dancing. I always get those two confused!

Ok, off to rot my thousand of dollars, highly educated mind with some mindless entertainment… anyone want to join?

  • Whew….

Un-decorating is almost as much work as decorating! The tree is stripped, the mantle returned to normal, and the majority of the decorations gone from the living room. I’m still not done….doing it the flylady way… a little at a time.

I still have the dining room and kitchen, and of course the outside lights… but then we’re finito for another year! Hooray!

Trying to take it easy, especially since I’m still recovering — yeck….

The whole house smells like Lysol….. I’m still in the process of disinfecting. I boiled all the toothbrushes today. Course I had to straighten the handles back out afterwards…. . I will replace them once we all get well. I’m also working on washing all the towels, pillow cases and bedding.

I’m serious……….. germs will die in my house this week! It’s  a mass germicide!!!! No mercy will be given, no quarter granted……. DEATH to the germs.

It’s a war — and I mean to win!!! I have Lysol, Clorox and a washing machine as my weapons for the house and orange juice, vitamins and chicken soup for the people…………….. We are ready for battle!!!!!

come on germs……………. I DARE you.

    And now some

    Final Words:

I’ll get a world record for this.     (or not……)

    It’s fireproof.       (uh huh)

So, you’re a cannibal.      (Even I’m eatable, but that my children is called cannibalism and is in fact frowned upon in most societies…..)

Are you sure the power is off?       (I have used these words with my husband…. fortunately, he lives…..)

That’s odd.         (never something you want to hear, especially if someone is working on electrical, or mechanical stuff.)

  • New Year’s Resolutions

So I’ve seen some sites with New Year’s Resoulutions. I’ve decided I should write mine down — who knows……… maybe I’ll actually keep some of them this year!

    1) Eat healthier — planning on going heavy on the veggies, light on the meat, very low starches and adding fish and seafood (for those of you who know, you know that last one is HUGE!!).

    2) Set a good example for my girls — by doing 1, and managing my frustration, and staying motivated for exercising and doing my work.

    3) Go to the beach at least once a week.

    4) spend more time with the family, less time with the TV and computer.

    5) GET HEALTHY and stay that way!

Ok, 5 things, enough  to work at. Don’t want to sabatoge myself by making unreasonable demands and unachievable goals. There are more things I want to accomplish and learn. I think I will make a life goals list.

There are so many things I want to do….

Parachute, learn a second language, see New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Italy, and South America, hang glide, snow board, learn html, barrel race, learn to play the drums… the list goes on and on. Maybe I’ll pick one a year and work on it, if I get that one done, I’ll move on.

With out goals and dreams, I think we are just hamsters running in a wheel.

What goals, plans and dreams do you have?
