AARGGHHH —- Homework!!
Today is the B-Day! No, not birthday, but BRACE day! Silver_Fangz gets hers off… finally after 2 long years, and Squirt gets hers on. Should be an interesting day!
Wish us all luck!
Great day today!
We spent a large portion of the day helping out at the Family Fun Day at church. It was very nice, but hot. We were down in Kihei, which is much hotter than where we live. But it was nice all the same.
Afterwards we went to Ruby’s Diner where we had olde fashioned flavored sodas, milk shakes, and fries.
Then we went to the movies and we saw “The Mask of Zorro”. It was EXCELLENT! Of course I loved the Legend of Zorro too. This was was just as good, although I think the story was not quite of the same caliber. But there was lots of action, those great hispanic accents, and lots of explosions (which oldest dd liked! she loves all things that explode!)
Two more days till oldest dd gets her braces off, and youngest dd gets hers on. It’s fate I think. Youngest dd now gets an upclose example of “what goes around, comes around”. Not going to be good for her, but she didn’t make it easy when her sister got hers. I will try to keep her from being to badly tortured, but she did bring it on herself!
Time for some giggles and guffaws…. we are watching SNL best of the 80′s. That’s my time! We’ve already been laughing out loud, and the kids are looking at us like we have lost our minds… I keep telling them insanity is hereditary.. you get it from your kids!
Buenos Noches!

Baby shower day!
We actually had a great time. We played several fun — well ok, they’re shower games, but some of them were really funny. For instance we played the game where everyone gets a clothespin when they come in. Every time some one crosses their legs or feet you can take their clothespin and vice versa. The person at the end of the shower with the most pins wins. What is funny is to see how seriously grown women take these things. They get militant about that stuff. Of course I had the most <blows on nails and buffs them on chest>, but as I was one of the hostesses, I gave the prize to the next person. Boy I tell you, women were out to get to me and my clothespins. They were serious about it!
The other game was a little toy baby frozen in a bowl of ice. Everybody guessed the time the baby would “crown”. That was fun too, as everyone had different methods of determining the time and then checked on the baby and had to comment fairly regularly. It was amusing.
And to emphasize the shopping situation, the mom to be, got two of one thing and three of another – these were the “big” gifts. Very amusing. I traveled all over the island in my little baby shower “scavenger hunt” yesterday, and I lucked out! At the last stop (a grocery store!) I found two of the items on her list and snapped them up. She was glad to get all of them.
We all hope she makes it to her C-Section date, which is the 29th of November. According to her dates, she’s due the 26th. According to the Doctors here she’s due the 15th of December. On top of that, this is her third child. I hope she makes it. You may ask how we believe her instead of the doctor?? — Easy, she’s military, with 2 children and her husband is always TDY. She pretty much knows the exact date of conception. ![]()
The family had a great day with their final SCUBA certification dives. They saw turtles, frog fish, eels, octopus, and a bizillion other forms of sea life. Hubby let scarlet cleaner shrimp clean his teeth. <eeewwwww> Needless to say there will be no kissing for awhile. Unfortunately, the camera battery died and there is no picture, otherwise I would definitely post pictures of that! Although I am already having a hard time getting the image out of my mind……….. and I wasn’t even there to see it! <shudders violently>.
Well it was a very good day in all. I have some homework to do tonight and we are going to watch a movie. Of course since I got up at 5:30 and worked pretty much all day, I may not make it very long. Tomorrow we have the Family Fun Day at church. Both Silver_Fangz and I are working so we will be there all day. It looks like it will be a long week end…………
I know the color scheme is kinda of…………… yucky, but it’s in honor of the baby shower!!
Today I went from store to store looking for baby shower gifts. The list was pretty simple, but after checking 4 different stores, I had come to the conclusion there wasn’t any to be found here on the island.
How could it be so complicated to track down Huggies disposable washcloths? You’d think they were as good as $2.50/gal gas or something. Did someone send out a mass emailing telling everybody on the island to run out and get these? Holy cow. I expect to run all over looking for hard to find gifts, like specialty foods, or the best chocolate in the world, crap like that. But Huggies washcloths??? Are you KIDDING me??
Where is Target?? I NEED Target!!!
Now I’m up creating extra games.. you know just in case we’re all sitting around staring at each other. I want to have something to give them to do so they can’t look at me. I hate it when people spend too much time examining me. Just say your polite hellos and move on people. Hence, I created something they have to look at… much better that way for everyone.
Yesterday went to a Hail and Farewell. I was amazed at the amount of people I don’t know. Where did they all come from?? Or maybe the better question is.. where the heck have I been?
It was nice, hung out and chatted with friends. Harassed the guys (that always makes things entertaining) and complimented the cook — Neil’s Jerk Chicken is loa ‘ono! No ka `oi! The farewell part dragged on, and on.. and on………… but other than that, it was not too torturous.
Hubby got up at the butt crack of dawn and headed out for the waves, then decided he’d stay out till it was time to golf with his buds. It was soooo nice having him home on Veteran’s day. Oh yeah, except he didn’t get home… till 5:30, then went to bed at 8:30 “’cause he wore himself out”. He still plays like he’s 20 something, but his body knows the truth, that his mentality is a few decades behind! Men!! They don’t ever learn….
I have to go now too. I have preparations to make for tomorrow. I have a broccoli salad to make. It’s actually pretty good… I know the thought of a broccoli anything would normally send me screaming in the other direction, searching desperately for some chocolate or junk food, but this recipe is surprisingly pretty darn good. I may even eat some tomorrow — Of course, there will be lavender scones and carrot cake, so then again…. I may leave the broccoli for those that prefer to take the healthy track, and stick to the sweets and junk food!
Aloha ahiahi!

Not much to report on this end.
Unfortunately, the news is not good for the promotion. It was highly unlikely any ways, as this was his first time testing and going to the board for Chief, but we were hoping against hope.
Actually…. we were undecided as to whether or not we wanted him to get this promotion. On one hand, it meant possibly getting stationed in the south west and closer to family, on the other it meant staying in an additional 3 years after sewing it on. I think the whole family is tired of being military though, we are ready to get out and put down roots. Also, if he does make chief, the odds are pretty good that he will have to do a tour to the desert. Not something anybody wants right? Especially after the one year without him while he was in Korea. We depend to heavily on him, and being without him is not fun, but especially in those circumanstances. I mean, if he had to go, he’d go and we would all support him and do what ever we could to make it as painless as possible for him, but the hope is that will never happen.
There are still chances that we will move before our tour here is officially up, but they are slim. I feel the worst for my oldest dd. She really did not want to move between sophomore and Junior year, which on the current plan is when we will be moving. Bummer. Wish I could change that for her. We’ll just have to make the best out of the next 1 1/2 here, so maybe that will compensate a little.
So life goes on and we continue to plod along, here in paradise. This means though that:
I have time to learn to surf.
We have time to visit the other islands like Kauai, Molokai, and Lana’i (We’ve already been to O’ahu, and Hawai’i)
We have lots of time for folks to come and visit.
I can finish my degree without moving.
I’ll have an additional 1 1/2 to scrapbook with Carie, and 1/2 a year to scrapbook with Pam, maybe I’ll get somewhere!
We can do this. I am just really ready to be closer to family and friends. I just have to look at the bright side and remember to enjoy the adventure and not worry what may or may not happen in the next couple of years.

I decided that I didn’t have enough to do so I would start on a complex, long, involved classic novel. Whoot!
Ok — WHEW!!! Finished my paper last night. 8 pages with a bibliography and title page. I used 10 references — then when I went to write the bibliography — I could have shot myself!! I had to write this APA style as opposed to MLA, which if you have ever had to write in APA style you can relate — IT SUCKS!!! MAN!! The reference page took me over 4 hours!! Cause of course, me in my brilliance selected a variety of sources, periodicals, books, research reports, online materials from ERIC and other databases…. Yikes!! I gave myself a major headache!! So I was done writing the paper at about 1:30, then the bibliography keep me busy till after 6:00 pm — what a freakin’ nightmare!
Ok — so enough whining.
What are they thinking?? That I’m in a Master’s program or something? That I’m not some kid fresh out of High School who can barely read and doesn’t know how to write.
Oh yeah… I guess they are huh?
So I went to a scrapbook retreat on Saturday and had lots of fun. My pages didn’t turn out quite as elaborate and creative as they do when I scrap with Carie and Pam. I need their craziness and creativity to encourage me.
I also need their stuff..
They have everything you could ever possible want or need to create…. well …… anything. I definitely need to build up my scrap booking stuff. (Just what I need — More Junk!)
Alright — I’m off to cause some trouble.
I think I’ll go annoy Squirt and make her do some work. LOL — She’s always happy when I hang over her shoulder and keep close tabs on all her subjects!

You come from the Night Sky. You’re drawn to the
stars and planets, and it’s no wonder why, you
came from them.

Went to the brain doc and the eyeball doc again. I’m still kind of holding a resentment against them since they did not approve my diving. Phooey on them.
I’m not good with authority any ways, and now that I’m ticked off, I’m even less likely to be a “good” patient.
Stupid eyeball doctor, dilated my eyeballs and poked around in them again. I HATE IT when he does that!!!! Then since they were numb, I went to put in my contacts and succeeded in sticking my fingers in my own eyes ( I couldn’t tell cause they were numb — see????) — BUT I can tell now!! Boy are they hurting. Fun, fun, fun.
Stupid Eyeball doctor also wanted to know when I was having another LP — (lumbar puncture aka spinal tap, aka cruel and unusual punishment). He also felt like we should be doing something more “permanent and long term” for my treatment… i.e. having a shunt put in. I DON’T THINK SO…. unless of course, we put it in him, in which case I am perfectly cool with it. I think he just wants to be experienced with that sort of thing, as by his own admission, he knows very little about PTC (my lame ass condition).
So of course he called the Brain doc, and expressed his concerns… so the brain doc upped my medicine. Which in itself is not so bad, however this doc likes to keep close tabs on me and my meds so I need labs today and then again in two weeks, and then every two weeks for the next 2 months till he’s sure I’m not going to fall over of dehydration or something.
Lab techs are people who really want to be vampires. They have enough of my blood to give me a transfusion. I feel no compunction to supply them with additional blood.
Besides, I’m still ticked off remember??? So being a “good” patient and getting my labs as requested………… probably not going to go well.
Well enough with the medical broohaha…….. on to more pleasant subjects.
Hmmmm… can’t think of any as I’m still brooding about the incompetency and inadequacies of the medical field.
Sooo…. I guess that I’ll have to sign off for the night and leave you guys with a hope for a brighter tomorrow. (although if you have ever had your eyes dilated, you’ll know that today was pretty darn bright… all day!)
All right! So I had a pretty productive day. Spent a couple hours researching for my next paper due on Monday. 6-8 pages. Between that time I have over 150 pages to read and 3 other assignments.
NOOOOO PROBLEMO!!!
Right.
I also managed to get my fat butt off the couch and work out. I signed up for a scrapbooking week-end retreat, put away some more Halloween decorations, and helped my family study for their last day of classroom diving instruction. <boo hoo hoo>.
Right now they are off, went to class then took Squirt to her RE classes. So…. that means I have time to blog with no interference!! HOOORAY!!
Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to say. I think my brain is turning to mush, just like our pumpkins did. We didn’t carve them till Saturday, and by yesterday, they were moldy, slimy and liquidy — <insert disguted attitude here>. The wonders of a humid climate!
So… I think I will take my mush brain and go start another book. I FINALLY finished Atlantis Found. Very Good, enjoyed it immensely. I haven’t had a lot of time for just pleasure reading of course, but I really would like to squeeze some in. I can only read so much on Theories of Human Learning and the Teacher as Action Researcher, before my head hits the table and the drool begins to form.
So, I’m off to find something to do but I will leave you with a little joke, my sister sent me some good ones. Here’s one:
