Month: August 2005

  •

So… I am trying to recuperate from my late night out with the “gaggle” as hubby calls them. It was lots of fun though. I usually only get 1 two page layout down per night, but they are usually pretty elaborate. I let my creativity out on my scrapbooking. I left the book open on the table so family could see it this morning. Hubby commented later how cool it was and how awesome it was to have our vaca pictures done in such a creative way. He can’t wait till I get our pictures of Germany and Europe scrapbooked. At the rate I’m going …. I’ll get to it in about a month or so. (I’m starting it next – but since I only get two pages done a week….. well you do the math)

Besides Scrapbooking I had a fun day yesterday trying to convince TriWest to quit screwing me over……… No LUCK!! I’m screwed!!!!

     TriWest – I spit on you… puh!!!!

Squirt must remain on limited mobility with no all clear from the orthopedic doc to ride horses until TriWest gets it head surgically removed from it’s butt.

I think she’s in for a long wait.

Well need to go clean up. That’s really the very last thing I want to do since I only got 4 hours of sleep. Since we are picking up the Commander’s daughter from her expensive private school and the Commander is coming here to pick her up, I ought to make the house semi – presentable.

Then again….. who cares what she thinks right????

    Yeah…. I go clean now……………

  • Madness takes its toll, Please have exact change.

Alright…. so here’s the latest and greatest in the life of….. ME!!! Huzzah!!!

Anyway…… I got my acceptance letter to the M.Ed. program. Very exciting…. can’t you tell I’m excited? On one hand I am very proud of myself for continuing my education and bettering myself. On the other hand I am wondering what in the HECK I am thinking!!!!!

So the other stuff that’s going on…. School marches on for the rest of the family as well. Squirt has jumped right back into home schooling and is doing just great. SF has begun her High School journey and so far seems to like it. She has been very busy with friends. The good thing is she does have friends, the bad thing is they are teenage girls which means they can be real asses sometimes. <heavy sigh> It sucks being a teen. Wish I could do something for her, but I am not in control in this situation. Even hubby is sort of in school mode as he studies every night and weekend in hopes of making his last stripe. (I hope too as the pay raise is veddddyyyy nice! <grins wickedly>

So I continue to return to the doctors for them to tell me that …… surprise!!! I still have a brain cloud.  <uh… duh,,, and you went to school for how many years for this??>

So I am back on my icky medicine and the brain doc is talking about a LP. NOT if I have ANYTHING to say about it! (LP – Lumbar Puncture, i.e. – spinal tap) Last time was a nightmare and one of the all time worst days of my life. I will not readily put myself on the table for that again.

Talked to friend in NW Florida earlier, they suffered lots of rain and hurricane force winds but escaped the brunt of it. Good thing, that was one nasty little storm. Strike that, one nasty BIG storm.

Hubby took the girls surfing yesterday which was good for me. I needed some quiet time alone in the house. He asked what I had done while they were gone to which I replied in complete honesty….. absolutely nothing! And it felt wonderful.

Well, unfortunately I don’t have “nothing” to do now, so I have to go do some more of those “wifely” chores that I so enjoy. <grimaces>

  • I live in my own little world. It’s ok, they know me there.

Bahhhh…. more lab work. Those Vampires! Don’t they have enough of my blood????

So, I tried to update last night but got locked out because I evidently typed in the wrong password…. word of advice….. type carefully!

Anyway, this weekend we went to the beach and hung out with another family and the new commander and  her daughter. We had a great snorkel…. we saw 13 turtles, star fish, octopus, eel, those sand flat fish… whatever their called….. and tons of fish. Very cool. Burnt my feet on the black sand getting out … Again… You OWE me Jim….. lol.

Then Mass Sunday evening. Saturday we had gone and done some back to school shopping. We have more to do but we are trying to give SF time to finish her last book and report for her summer reading. We also have to go get her ID and make sure she has her laundry clean. She is nervous about starting High School — I don’t blame her. It’s a big step. It was easier for me because I had been going to school with those kids since 6th grade. Also my big sis was already there so I knew I had someone to help if I got stuck. She could be cool when she wanted to. She also had quite a reputation for being a bad a## so that helped. She told everyone  they’d better leave me alone and if she heard about anyone harassing me that would have to deal with her. I don’t think I would have had any problems anyway, but it was nice to have that as a back up.

So home school for Squirt starts tomorrow too… I don’t think she’s ready either! It’s going to be hard for her to get back in the saddle  so to speak but work must prevail!!! Muahhhaaahhhaaa……….

On the schooling note, I received my acceptance letter for College and will soon be officially enrolled as a M. Ed. student. Huzzah! (yikes…. please send help)

Ok that’s all for now, I’m bored so I’m sure you are too… take care and Hasta la vista.

So… New entry, Whoo hoo. This week has been full of doctors, tricare dealings, a sick husband, and getting ready for Silver_fangz to go to high school. Yikes!!

Surprise, surprise I actually managed to hook up with an old dear friend who I lost touch with a couple years ago. I was so glad to hear from him. I have missed having him in my life.

Yesterday I instituted a maximum of 1 hour of media per day for each child. Man did they throw fits. They bargained, whined, complained but I refused to give in. They eventually got over it and we all had a good day. I got a ton don, cleaned the house and washed laundry. We had an ortho. appt which we made and we did some back to school shopping as well as playing games.

Today Squirt asked if she could have 2 hours… I said why? she told me and I said No….. she didn’t complain or fight. I guess this might eventually become habit.

Silver_fangz got up, checked her email for about 15 minutes, then went downstairs and found other things to do. She learns fast.

Tonight I have the “gaggle” over. We are scrapbooking tonight. Have to make some spinach dip and then I just bought a desert. Lazy I know… but we are doing this every week now so I figure I ought not kill myself every time…. lol.

So I still have some cleaning and laundry to do, so I’d better go, besides…. don’t want to waste my entire hour blogging!!! After all I would never expect my girls to do something I’m not willing to do…..

Alright, Have fun, don’t get caught and keep scrappin’….

  • So…. I’ve been hanging out on the computer and reading blog pages, looking up old friends and basically just wasting my time. I decided I’d better limit computer time from now on or else I might end up doing nothing but.

Read an interesting article on home schooling <Thanks dad for the link>.  The Public education system is definitely still in denial. I am a teacher who has worked for the PS system for years, however I recognize that there are major flaws in the system. My dad always asks “so how do we fix it?” At this point I say “we tear it down and start from scratch”. The public education system is broke and needs to be replaced. Holt and Gato have both written some good pieces about this topic. The foundations of our public education are rooted in the industrial revolution… the current system was put in place to train citizens for the business setting … i.e.. FACTORIES, which was great at the time, but let’s move on. Now a days most people do NOT work in factories, so obviously it’s time for real changes… not just band aids. Well enough soap box… here’s the link if anyone is interested in checking it out.   Please realize I don’t condemn PS in any way, a lot of them have great things to offer and there are a lot of fantastic teachers out there. The Burearacracy of the education system is what needs to be fixed, and unfortuantely that affects the average classroom teacher.

Silver_fangz spent the night with friends…. she just got home. She’s kind of tired since she stayed up till 5:00 am…. but she has to clean her room anyway. It sucks being a kid, but someone has to do it. LOL

Hubby is sick… poor baby. I hope I don’t get it! I have been sick so much since getting here! I hate it! I think it’s the humidity… and the illness always takes like 2 or more weeks to go away. YECK!!

Ok, nuff said for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend….

    Aloha!

  • Well I have been having lots of fun on the computer in the last two days. I spent yesterday cleaning up my hard drive, making disc of pictures and documents then deleting them, removing old programs and doing regularly needed maintenance stuff (that is NEVER regularly done). So the computer is running very smoothly. Yah for me  <pats self on back and jumps up and down with pride >!

Then last night I spent looking up old classmates and friends. Don’t know what got into me… just a sudden desire to reconnect to people I don’t really remember……. hmmmm. Maybe I’m having a middle age crisis. Think that will mean I will lose weight? And buy a sports car? Hope I don’t start dressing in running suits….. Yuck.

Anyways…. also went to eye doc yesterday for another fun round of tests. At least this time they didn’t dilate my eyes and poke them. I hate that, I always end up with a nasty headache. Today I go back to discuss the results, then meet with the brain doc to discuss the results of the results…… <heavy sigh> I HATE doctors! What a pain.

After the doctors I need to …. grocery shop (whew hold me back, can’t wait to get started on that one!).  Then fix Silver_fangz new bathing suit, then it’s off to the beach for a farewell party.  That’s the benefit of living in paradise, farewells are held in a very attractive setting!

Ok, well as much as I would rather hang out and goof off on the computer, I have to get ready for my grueling day. Well… doctors and grocery shopping count as grueling don’t they???

    TTFN~~

    John Bender

    The Breakfast Club

Arose from bed early this morning…. actually practically jumped out as I was just waking up when my dh walked up to kiss me goodbye. Opening your eyes to someone advancing on you tends to get my adrenaline flowing….. guess my subconscious was still working and the conscious part was still waiting for coffee.

So Squirt had her bf spend the night. Not always a good thing. After chapter 4 of the drama of 11 yr. old friendship had been closed we were able to eat dinner. This little friend recently had to serve 2 1/2 day of restrictions, during which she got new clothes and new bedroom furniture, after getting in a fight and pushing her mother. I believe we would be a single child family if that were to happen, as dh can’t make anymore to replace the one I would be forced to take out. Just in case Squirt was even thinking that was cool, or she might be able to get away with it ~~ I made it perfectly clear that the next few months would be very bad for her if she EVER even considered being so disrespectful to myself … OR…. another grown up. No wonder we are in the mess were in.  Anybody heard of discipline these days????

So today’s plan is to take it easy. Saw Sky High yesterday. Must be the influence of the teenage television has reduced my IQ. It actually wasn’t too bad or as Silver_fangz said it was “pretty good, lame but ok”. Today I have a list of items I have been procrastinating that I hope to accomplish.  I can already cross off “Make To – Do List”. Hooray!  I’m well on my way to having a productive day!

Maybe I’d better take a break before going on… I don’t want to overwhelm myself and wear myself out before I even get started.

This week I plan to go up to the top of Haleakala and watch the meteor shower. Should also get a great look at Mars as it gets the closet to Earth in a very long time. Course the best viewing for that will be the end of this month. Haleakala is at 10,000 feet and boy…. it’s really cold up there!!!!

Ok, I’m bored with this and need a fresh cup of java…. so ya’ll have fun and stay out of trouble. (Or at least don’t get caught).

    Later bra’

  • Reality: Just the illusion created by the lack of drugs in our society.

Ok, so technically, I watched this last night. Forgot how funny it was. However…… heads up for people with children, even teenagers, It’s a little risqué’ and there is quite a bit of foul language.  I had forgotten how many scenes with nudity there were. I’m sure it seemed like more to me cause I was watching it with my kids. We kept saying “cover your eyes”. OOPS!! Just a heads up for those fans of older comedies, sometimes it’s better to preview these before letting children watch.

Other than that though ~ it was hysterical! Very funny stuff!

My jeep is running!!!!  HOORAY!!!!! Thank you God, and thank you Hubby! I love my JEEP. I get my own car and A/C. Squirt wants to go to the movies today. Course I have been planning to take her since Wednesday…. so I guess I should go ahead and take her.  Course she wants to go see Sky High. I’d rather see Wedding Crashers…. but the 11 yr. old gets to make this decision.

We saw several movies this summer. Bewitched was actually funny, although I usually don’t care too much for Nicole Kidman. We also saw Herbie Full Loaded, again pretty good. Sahara ~ MY FAVORITE movie of all time now — LOVE IT!!! We also saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory…. ok that was weird. I like, noo strike that, Love Johnny Depp’s work but he played a fairly creepy Willy Wonka. I guess I’m just too old to reinvent now…. I prefer the version with Gene Wilder. Just call me a fuddy duddy.

Well I just have to suck it up and go see Sky High. At least I’ll be in air conditioning! That’s a good thing.

Ok, off to do some real work… I think I’ll get some coffee and play some computer gin. It’s hard work, but some one has to do it.

    TTFN ~

  • “I’LL TRY TO BE NICER, IF YOU’LL TRY TO BE SMARTER.”

Ok, I know, I know … the idea of a blog is to type regularly…. but I am not your normal blogger!!! Muahhhaaahhha…..

Ok ~ so here’s what’s happened. We did finally make it to the Blow hole and snorkeling at Honolu Bay. Both were awesome and the girls had a great time. Then we went to Hana — on the South road which is 23 miles paved, 8 miles rough paved and 8 miles of  …. Hope you don’t need to pee….. dirt road. Unfortunately, the pools were flooded due to rain in the mountains that night soo… no cliff jumping for the girls. Instead we hiked 5 miles round trip to see a 400 foot waterfall. We also hiked through a bamboo forest. Very cool.

    Bad part was….

Silver_fangz was hiking in slippahs….not very conducive to hiking through mud.

Mosquitoes — lord above!! Next time a bring a commercial sprayer with me — either that or I am wrapping myself head to toe in mosquito netting.

    Humid…. hot, sticky, muggy YECK!!!

The really bad part was on the way home the Jeep broke down <tear>. Had to have it towed. So sad. And hubby wasn’t home to fix it. Didn’t get back till Thursday, so we were stuck in the silver BMW, the one with NO A/C!!!! Double YECK!!

So anywho…. on Monday Silver_fangz went camping with friends. Anita, Squirt and I went to the top of Haleakala to watch the sunset and stars. Course Squirt forgot her jacket, so I ended up giving her mine and freezing to death. Sometimes being a mother sucks. You give up shoes (Silver_fangz ended up in my shoes while hiking and I in her slippahs), jackets, food and drinks. Next time… no way they freeze or hobble but it’s their problem!

The stars were amazing.. it was like being inside a planetarium. Very cool.

Thursday finally got here and Squirt broke her foot about an hour after her dad got home… spent 41/2 hours in ER. Boy was he happy to be home for that!!!

Finally got my jeep fixed today. The service center was closed during the weekend……. welcome to the island! I mean honestly… Who has time to work on their car  on Mondays – Friday 9:00 5:00???  Guess where everybody is then?? AT WORK!!!!!!  Jeesh….. brilliant minds at work here. There are a few things I miss about the mainland:  Target, being able to visit friends and family, and having options on everything else!!! Ahh well….it’s a high price, but somebody has to pay it. Guess I’ll pony up…..

Ok I’ve bored even myself by now so I’m off to find some dinner. Beside Silver_fangz is going freakin’ nuts wanting the computer!
